Gents, I had just ran into a situation with my Transmission on my 2000 Dyna Super glide any suggestions would be helpful. I pulled out of the gas station not getting on hard and had it to 3rd gear and had to stop at an intersection, it would not downshift, shifter itself operated normal but would not gear down. I got her going so I could get to a parking lot and got it down to 1st tried to find N but it went to 2nd. At this time I decided to limp it home after several attempts on the open road I managed to get her into 5th, I then had the same situation once I arrived at my house getting it to down shift was the same situation a hit a miss finaly got her down to 1st. Any suggestions?
there was a thread a while back, week or so, where a guys mid shifter shaft slide back into the primary and was causing binding, would have to search for it to find out for sure the cause and fix. did you switch to forward controls ever? something to think about.
I did not check clutch cable yet everything was working fine and smooth right before it started f#*king up, the first thing I thought of is that something inside gave out. I did check the linkage and all was good also checked the fluid. forward controls were installed ? hell, back in 2001.
where the shifter goes though the forward bracket maybe binding up.
take the shifter left side shifter off, and then the forward bracket.
the arm the shifter bolts to maybe binding. take this out, clean all the rust off if any and coat it liberally with anti seize.
you could always unbolt the long shift rod and see if it shifts fine first, if it does then you know the prob isn't the trans but in the linkage.
also make sure the clutch is adjusted properly, and not just the cable either.
