2006 Dyan Street Bob. I press the "run" button and listen for the fuel pump to start priming the engine...and it doesn't happen. When I press the "stop" button, it makes the noise like it's priming. Any ideas? The engine just cranks and cranks but will not turn over.
switch is wired wrong? did this just start happening
its not priming the engine just building pressure in the pump if its cranking it is turning over just not starting Have you done anything to the bike lately
I rode the bike a couple weeks ago, no problems. This has never happened before. The only thing I have done with the bike in the last year is replace the battery.
When I get home I am going to take one of the spark plugs out and try to start the bike and make sure fuel is reaching the plugs.
A lot of people have suggested the fuel pump, regulator, fuses, battery, battery cables.
1. I turn the key (all my lights/electrical come on)
2. press the RUN button (should hear the fuel pump at this point, but it's not priming engine with fuel)
3. press the START button. The motor cranks and cranks but never starts.
I haven't done anything to my handlebars, Im internally wiring in the near future...haven't got around to it yet.
It's a mystery to me b/c I just rode the bike 2 weeks ago. I will re-check my grounds/cables/wires for a loose connection.
sounds like a pinched wire to be honest... i get what you are saying now, your RUN/off button... do not knwo why that was so hard for me to get! sorry
i would bank a ground... did you wash the bike lately or rain?
Mine did it two weeks after I bought the bike. It just died on the road, luckily it sputtered the mile left to get home. Sometimes I hit run and nothing. Then I hit and it primed and started, then died a block later. Then it just quit priming in the driveway. My fuel pump went out!! Warranty covered it, so I was good.
Have to agree with Jaron. Since it does everything it is supposed to when you hit the appropriate buttons, the wiring sounds like its good. Engine turns over just won't start - either not getting spark or not getting fuel. Bad fuel pump is a good bet.
bad fuel pump, also, is there a fuse for said pump. could have blown somehow. I have a carb, so unsure if it has it's own fuse. I doubt it is spark if your fuel pump is not priming.
