Default Finally! Now I need some input.

Ok, as some of you may recall, right when I was going to pull the trigger on a new scoot last year, I lost my job. I've been on the forum as, for lack of a better word, a troll, a poser, a wannabe, whatever, for the past 17 months. Well, after a knockdown dragout with the OL two nights ago, she said "FINE!" when I said I'm getting a bike. So hopefully early next week I'll have some pics to post. Here's my dilemma, I can get a low miles '09 Fat Bob (black pearl) for somewhere in the 13's OTD, or I can go to my local stealer and get a brand new '09 FXD (silver) probably for msrp with no other fees. I would also try to get them to throw in forwards for no charge.

Now, I know everyone says get what you want, but I want both, but can't have both. I like the fatter tires, brakes, fwds, and drag bars on the FB, but I like the tank, minimalism, the bare bones look of the FXD and the fact that it would be new. I would have to change the foot controls and bars on the FXD straightaway (i'm 6'2" and hate buckhorns, but otherwise I could ride it stock. So, with all of that in mind, what do you folks think? Would I be kicking myself for getting one versus the other? Thanks much, and apologies for another "which one should I get" thread.

In my opinion, if it took a "knockdown dragout" with the OL I would have 2nd thoughts. It will be much more enjoyable if you're both in agreement.JMO

I got my 2010 FXDC ($1k more than the FXD) for under MSRP and no other fees. $15k, out the door. With the 'Custom' paint job and security system. Also, we have a $250 'first time tag' fee in FL. First tag on a vehicle and they sock it to you.

I went looking for the FXD, but they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. If you do want an FXD, I bet they'll deal with you. Especially if it's an '09. They're sitting all over showroom floors for some reason. They ain't moving.

The mini-pullbacks work well for a lot of people, even taller people. The mid controls might annoy you, but you can put a Highway Peg Mounting Kit on it and shift with your heel until you're ready to put forwards on it. If you ever do. I know a couple guys who absolutely love having two places to put their feet. Legs can get cramped in one position after a while.

Take your time. It isn't always what bike looks best to you, sometimes it's what bike looks best with you on it.

You only list two options when there are infinite ones available to you. I suppose that means that these two are what you have boiled your choices down to but, now that you have the OK to buy one, be sure you know what's out there.

$13,000 seems astronomical for a used bob. My '09 FXDC/I was $9,000. There are some good deals out there, if you take the time to locate them. And if I were you I wouldn't be in such a hurry to make changes to a bike I haven't even ridden yet. Whatever you buy, ride it for awhile; get to really know it before making changes. You might consider first renting for a day the model you are planning to buy.

Well, maybe I overstated it just a bit, but needless to say she wasn't thrilled. She's known it was coming for a while. When I lost my job last May, I had some trouble getting some bonus money that was owed to me, and she "motivated" me by saying "that's your bike" referring to the owed money. I got the money from the previous employer, and she crawfished. Now we can afford it, and I told her it's happening.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have narrowed it down to the FXDF and the FXD for the reasons stated. Now I have to get off the fence and make up my mind. I've ridden both, and the only thing about the FXD I truly can't stand are the mid-controls and the buckhorns.

I agree with the earlier posts about your knockdown dragout... I live by the moto "a happy wife is a happy life" get her involved in helping you pick out the right machine. Most girls know what makes their man look good... With that said, you can turn the FXD into any one of its other versions if you want - it is a great place to start.
