Default Any issues with Street Bob/Dynas?

Hello All, I'm coming over from the touring section. I am looking to pickup a used or new street bob as a second bike. Just wondering if there are any issues I need to be made aware of with street bobs/dynas in general. For example, on my 09 Road Glide, there are issues with the front Dunlop 407 tire wear, water in the rear swingarm, crappy headlight power, inner/outer fairing trim coming off, wind buffeting with several windshields, compensator being weak. I'm looking for any issues with the dynas, 06 and up, especially the street bob as that's the model I want. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Be very careful of "addiction"

Only a couple come to mind at the moment. Do a search for "front end clunk". Another problem i had was my front motor mount going bad. Both not really an issue but more of an annoyance. Other than that... i love my bob.

Maybe you should pick up two Street Bobs?

Stay away from an 06 if possible, due to stator and inner primary bearing issues. All fixed on 07 and up.

The worst problem I've had is I can't ride the thing enough! Other than that the only issue prevalent is front master cylinder cover seal. Seems the OEM seal not compatible with D.O.T. 3. I've had it replaced twice under warranty. More of an annoyance.

There is the "addiction" issue. I still have my 2003 100th Anniversary Road King, but it only gets used about once a week. My 2009 Street Bob gets used every day.

As far as negative issues with the Street Bob are concerned, I have only 3.

1. The standard Street Bob controls are too far back. If you like the floorboards of the touring bike, you will probably want to add foward controls. The H-D forward controls kit is about $400 and solves the cramped riding style. There are 3rd party foward controls kits, but I did not investigate them.

2. The single rotor disc front brake fades very fast from over 70 mph and hard braking. It really needs to be upgraded. That is combined with the front end braking vibration/clunking as mentioned by others.

3. The stock solo seat on the '09 Street Bob looks good, but it doesn't feel good. I call it the "Butt Bruiser 200" because if I ride more than 200 miles with that seat, my butt is "bruised" for days afterwards. The solution is simple, but a little bit pricey. A Mustang Vintage Wide Solo with backrest. Don't forget the "with backrest". If you buy the seat without the backrest, you cannot add it later. About $460 if you shop the internet. The bad thing about the Mustang Vintage Wide Solo is that it doesn't look good on the bike, so if I'm riding 200 miles or less, I ride with the stock H-D seat. (It takes about 30 seconds to swap seats.)

Although I have not done it, progressive rear shocks would improve the ride without ruining the looks of the bike.

While I'm on a roll, let me trash the H-D designer that thought it looked "cool" to attach the license plate bracket as a mud flap on the back of the chopped fender. That can be easily solved with a side mount license plate bracket and lighted frame.

Or you could just slap on one of these chrome things under the mud flap license plate.
18 wheelers love them.

+1 (From what i have heard on this forum)

Also, it is an asthetic thing only, but the 09 SB has an ugly as sin grey motor. I actually had mine painted with textured black. Some guys on here like the grey and think it looks good. But thay all have either the black or grey tins. It just didnt look good with the red.

One of the biggest problems that I have is, scraping the lower exhaust pipe in some corners. Other than that and a minor issue with the shifter. Seems that my steel toe boots would not let the shifter return to normal position until I re-positioned the shift lever higher to clear the toe of my boot.
