How to install SERT
Everyone thinks that because they have a laptop they can tune bikes.
We use the dyno and after I tune a bike the a/f ratio is pretty consistent
all thtough the rpm range.
plus the dyno gives you the capabilities of seeing the a/f and finding out where it's lean.
I did a guys road king a few weeks ago, 103 stage 4 and I got him over 110 hp and over 113tq.
try doing that in your driveway with a laptop.
save your money on the DT software and get the bike tuned.
There are some pretty competent DIYers that can get the most out of their bikes with a laptop, but not everyone with a laptop can get everything (or wants everything). Many of these "amateurs" do rent dyno time to verify their settings.
Just about anyone can get close to street perfect with a laptop and TTS, however. And if plus or minus one or two HP is good enough for guys that just want to ride with smiles, why risk the hard earned cash on a less than competent tuner for mediocre results. Why risk the cash when even I can do a mediocre tune myself for free?
So if you want your bike set up perfectly, spend the cash have a competent tuner do it (not necessarily a dealer) and let him use the tools of his choice.

Being a dealer isn't it ilegal for you to modify the bike from the original EPA parameters? Please comment on this because I am not certain about it.
If I take my bike in get SE breather and pipes with the download. All the download does is synch the VE tables to an HD config close to what I have. This not a Performance tune. If the dealer is using a dyno and an SESTP then he is going to do is some data runs and Smart Tunes to Synch up your VE tables w/your current configuration ie pipes A/C, etc. Basically simular to the download but more specific to YOUR bike. Still not modifying AFR and not a performance tune.
I'm not talking about somehow doing a seat of your pants dyno pefomance tune. I'm just saying if you have the SESTP you can get the same results as the download or what the dealer calls a dyno tune.
Certainly a dyno performance tune by a proffesional would yield vastly greater results perfomance wise.
There are maps on the CD that will get you close enough for what you have done. There is a section on trouble shooting and how to tune the bike.
You can get it dyno tuned but it most likely wont be much of a change from what you get on the cd maps anyways.
Stay away from www.hdmaps.com as they are a ripoff.

To kill 2 birds and chime in on the original posters question, just remove the bigger cover behind the coil, its got 2 pegs that reside in rubber gromets for mounting.
There you will see a DIN connector clipped to the ECM "box",and this is where the VCI to ECM cable will plug in.
The other cable is a USB which will go from PC to VCI.
As j mentioned earlier, it is a piece of cake, and with smart tune you can get it dialed in very nicely. The more data gathered via runs with the VCI connected, the closer you can dial it in to your specific bike, riding style, climate, etc.......
Once you get ready, post in the tuner section of the site, or p.m. one of us and we can point you in the right direction.
