Default New here and want to know street bob vs fat bob

Hello all, I am in the market for a new bike, and was wanting to know the main difference in handleing between the street and the fat bob. I like the look of the fatter front and rear tire of the fat bob, but dont know what that actually translates to on the road. I like the look of the single headlight and rear fender of the street bob. I have only had a superglide before, and that was way back in 2000. I am leaning more toward the street bob due to price, but the only thing I like better about the fatbob, is the bigger front and back tires. The salesman at the dealership says that the fatbob handles way better than the streetbob, especialy in the turn. Is this true? Also I am sure I will eventually have a springer front end added later. Can a springer front end be added to the fatbob with the wider front tire?
If I could have it my way, I would really love the Street bob with a wider rear tire like the fat bob and a springer front end with the wider fat bob front tire also. Is this possible, and how would it handle? I dont like the double headlight or the fender on the fatbob. Any and all help would be great guys. Thanks Bill

I'm happy with my FXDF but it sounds like the StreetBob would be a better fit for you. Why pay extra for the dual disc if you're going with a springer front end? When it comes time for a new tire just get a bigger one.

A 180 rear tire (same as Fat Bob) will fit on the Street Bob. Why the springer if you want a good handling bike? There is a member with a Dyna springer. To get his attention post about a springer on a Dyna. First do a search. The topic has been covered.
I put a 200 on the back of my Street Bob. It did require work and money. Pics are in my album.

Billiam as far as the tire size, Harley has a Wide Tire Kit for 2006 and Later Dynas. It

comes with a Dunlop Screamin' Eagle 180 mm tire [ that fits the original 17'' wheel ]

and all required hardware . I also am looking into a Street Bob, and I agree with you

about the wider tire thats on the Fat Bob. Thats how I found that wide tire kit on

Harleys web site. The Fat Bob's 180 mm does fill up the rear fender much better than

the Street Bob's 160 mm in my opinion. As far the Fat Bob handling, I would think it

might be alittle better with the 130 front 180 rear vs the Street Bobs 100 front 160

rear, but we'll have to wait for an owner to give us a advice about that.

well, springers are bad riding and handling pieces compared to a standard front end or inverted fork upgrades. It might be best to envision the bike you really are after and choose the platform that best suits you. price out the mods you want to have your finished bike and go from there. A springer front and fat wheel are possible, yet maybe in the end, the cost will be better to do something like purchase a crossbones as opposed to a Dyna. IMHO the springer can look good on a dyna, much better on a softail, and in reality is way off base in choice for a better performance standpoint.

Yes without a doubt. See Centerline's pics (I always use his a reference when handling comparisons are are being asked!) The pics should answer your question pronto.

I'm a touring bike rider (10 Limited) I had some time to kill at the Dealership and demoed them both. I have to say I after riding the Fat Bob I know what my second bike is going to be.
If your going to put forward controls on it I'd say that will be another expensive project.

Forward controls = $350
Labor to have them installed correctly (local shop) = $110
Rear pillion = $125
Rear peg mounts = $55
Rear pegs = $45
--------------------
$685 Just to get it 2-up capable. Also changed the pipes, fuel pak, sissy bar/rack/rear turn signals relocated...etc. If you buy a used bike it'll likely have some of the basic mods already done to save a bunch of $$$. Enjoy either one.
