Default Fat Bob - 09 - New - Questions

Hello,

As I'm sure you've all experienced before, I'm all excited, jittery, and can't sleep, due to picking up my first HD tomorrow from the dealer, '09 FXDF. Purchased it over the weekend.

I've never had a EFI bike, and hoping there might be a good roadmap, not that there is a consensus, but some good suggestions to deal with the hot running V-Twin issue. Without getting too far into opinions on customization, is there anything pretty standard (e.g., install an air intake) that mitigates the potential for overheating problems from the get go?

I'll be taking several trips of the 120 miles at a time range on the weekends this summer and in the midwest with the heat/humidity/traffic I just want to be proactive in finding out what my options are. I understand that these modifications may require shelling out an additional few hundred for tuning etc. Just want to do what's best for the new ride and I appreciate your thoughts!

Welcome and enjoy your new bike. Hang around the forum for a while and you will get all you questions answered. Your bike has a warranty and will run for a long time without any problems completely stock. There are many tips and parts to make your bike run stronger and cooler but my suggestion would be to ride it and not worry about it while you are learning and sorting out what you like to change.

I think I would probably ride it stock for the first summer too. This will give you time to read the forums and ride the bike and learn what you would like to do to it. Enjoy the heck out of that thing while you do your research. The Fat Bob is one nice ride, I love mine.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the stock Fat Bob... ride the wheels off it while it's under waranty, and then keep on ridin' it!
But to answer you'r initial question... research 'XiDE' s at: http://nightrider.com/
I ran em on mine for a while... got em used for $40.

+1 on the Xieds. You can fit them in 5 mins and they can be removed as quickly if you need any warranty work in that area.

If you like the change that they make and/or you decide to swap out the pipes+A/C at some point then you can make a similar but better job of things by fitting a good fuel management system instead.

Default Rush slip-ons!!!!

I can only add that you will LOVE that bike. I sure as h**l do mine! First time you hit a winding road you won't BELIEVE how it handles! Did do a stage 1 and added PCV and it runs a bit cooler now...BUT they still get pretty warm-especially the rear jug. EZ add on with no mods: Rush slip ons w/2.00 baffles. DEEP and sounds like a Harley should!! I'm waiting for the proper ones to be shipped after having the wrong mounts on mine. GAWD i miss the sound of them! Most will say get a full exhaust but I like the look of the stock system BUT wanted to hear it. Keep yer eyes peeled-they pop up on here quite frequently for sale. Can't recommend them enough! I have the 2.25's but not much difference in the low deep tone though. ENJOY!!

lets see.... what to add to this already impresssive list of advices..

ok i suggest this to anyone who is gonna ride distances in your area of mention...

focus on your seat. a good seat "Wow" really makes the bike worth riding..

bad seating, ruins shoulders, lower back, and just makes the overall riding a real chore.

HD will let you try out a seat or two, start there.

This forum is loaded with different seats, and different varying opinions about them. use the knowledg base to narrow down your choices. and when your riding or anywhere else, dont hesitate to ask questions.. cause frankly, a knowledgeable rider, is a safe rider.

Enjoy your Bob. cause man... not a day goes by that i dont wanna ride mine.. she's just friggin fantastic.
