Default SE front tire

Last week I changed both my back and front tires. On the back I replaced the SE 180 I had with another one just like it. The stock Dunlop in the back netted me about 9500 miles, this last SE 180, only about 6500, though I could have gotten maybe another 1K out of it - I just wanted to do both of them at the same time.

But that's not the reason I'm writing. I also replaced the stock front Dunlop with the matching SE tire. The tread design looks good. The surprise however is that the bike is now significantly more flickable! This tire is the same size as stock, but there is something obviously different about it.

When I moved from the stock back tire to the SE I thought I noticed some improvement in this direction, but it could have been my imagination. Not so with the front. I actually was having to readjust my line in corners because of over-leaning.

So bottom line is I'm impressed. Now if I can just get more miles out of them!

I am running both front and rear SE tires now as of last week and I can say that I feel like the bike tracks better, maybe its a function of the softer compound and a better grip. I think the tire may have more of a rounded shape allowing for better tracking. I am not exactly sure of the difference in shape compared to the stock tire and don't want to spout bad info. The tread design does look cool I have to say.

CRF,

part number is: 40554-04A
I have an 07and the tire is listed as compatible with 02-05 dynas, dealership assured me the tire would work with my 07.

So far I am very happy with both se tires.

Cheers,

Tom

So what you are saying is that the front actually sticks now, right.
Getting rid of the stock D401 is something I have been saying for a long time now and some are still replacing the the D401 with another D401, crazy. Those who are dead set on replacing the 19" D401 with another Dunlop, at least go with the K591 or better the SE, both would work well with a Rear K591 which is not a bad tire.

When I went to the Night Dragons it was like Night and Day compared to the D401, the front sticks like crazy. I would say it is actually worse when you put a sticky tire on the rear with a hard *** piece of crap on the front, I have found it makes it want to push even more and that is the worst feeling in the world, not to mention dangerous. I'll take less mileage for a sticky front tire and rear, but most of all the front! When you wash out on the front, you go down hard!

You say you got 6500 and maybe 7500 on your SE, are you pretty aggressive on the throttle? I have some chrome cash saved up and was thinking of using towards an SE 180 since I am going to need a new tire soon, especially if I can get 7000 out of it and a wide tire to boot, I just can't get that out of the ND the way I accelerate out of the corners and even straight line acceleration, not sure if the SE will wear any better than the ND and I hate to change what already works great.

Anyway, it looks like you made a good tire choice!

Well, yes, but I never break the tire loose. I love the throttle though so I'm sure I stress the back tire pretty good.

Thanks, if you're pretty aggressive and get that kind of mileage, I think I'll try the SE just for the hell of it. Plus, some say the SE is wider than the Night Dragon and I can put that to rest.
