My 2010 wide glide cut out several times while traveling through the smokey mountains. It appeared to just cut out like it was losing fire and then would come back. The engine light has come on and was on until we put the bike in a trailer to head back home to Florida. As we are traveling we don't have maintenance books or time right now to troubleshoot the issue till we get back. Just wanted to see if any others had an issue like this. We did ride in the rain two days prior and there was light rain today, but not bad at all.
The bright side... I did get to slay the Dragon a few times
I used to get that problem when I first installed my PCV and didnt have the harness tucked away far enough and water would get into the connector. But probably not your issue if you dont have a PCV.

I have the exact bike you have..It's pure stock

Reason: what the hell is a PCV?

It certainly sounds like rainwater in an electrical connection, but why aren't you taking it to the nearest HD dealer?

It broke down late this afternoon, on our last day of vacation, Hubby has to
be back for his job...( he works in a different state) so it's a 'Time' deal.
I will take it to HD when we get back to florida.
The PCV is a Powercommander aftermarket fuel computer. If your bike is stock, you wont have one. But for sure it is a electrical issue. Just for kicks, have you checked the battery connections? My buddys street bob did the same thing with a loose terminal.
The lack of a fuel management system has nothing to do with the bike intermittently cutting off, and installing one won't cure the issue, at least not directly. When you install an FMS, you're disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, injector wiring, oxygen sensors, fuel pump fuse and maxi fuse. So, you can simulate a FSM install by disconnecting and reconnecting the same things making sure everything is clean and tight. Likely, one or more of these connections, or their "shields" are contributing to the problem. Having said that, if it were my new bike, it'd be going back to the dealer for repair. Congrats on your new bike and conquering the dragon!!

Thanks for Everyone's Replies....We're packing up this am, just thought I would look in so, and try a few more things to the bike before we head out.
That Dragon ain't no game......neither is Wayah Road....to me that is just about as bad....nothing but switchbacks....everyone try wayah road...off of hwy 19....the hellbender was fun too
I will let you guys know when I get back to Florida, and see what the dealer says...I just like to have a heads up , so i can direct the dealer....lol...hey, sometimes they are lost !
guys... guys.. easyyyyy.. lmfaooo, judging by her posts and her not knowing what a PCV was, chances are, the other lingo isnt gonna ring true in her ears either way...
Now.. judging by what she posted alone.. she went on vacation... ran around on the bike, and all of sudden she started acting up. cutting off, starting.. etc...
now assuming all things are square on the stock bike..
id check 2 places...
1. dump the gas.. it might be bad gas.. and its causing all sorts of havoc in there..im sure HD will do the same if that be the case. in this time.. after a few good rains. im cautious to which pumps i go to.. not everyone has a great place, and tend to get water damage in their tanks ruining their gas.
2. as it was previously mentioned. check your connections .. ie... battery terminals, and fuses and see if there is any water obstructing the connections. this including the spark plug wires, pull them, make sure they're clean and water free. and put some dielectric grease in there as well.
**** when you pull the fuse box cver, you'll see two connections on the top left of the fuses. disconnect those and make sure theyre dry, clean, and free of contaminants.. add some of the dielectric grease i mentioned, and reconnect.
Good luck.. dont be afraid of rolling up your sleeves and getting into your ride.. she isnt that complicated and all these things mentioned can be done at your garage..
good luck... keep us posted when its al fixed. let us know what was the cause...
