Default Need help, dreaded electrical issue...

I bought my 2006 wide glide used about a month ago. When I first experienced the problem the bike began to basically studder and buck at. It usually happened at 60 plus MPH. I went to the dealer and bought new plugs, wires and positive and negative cables. Replaced everything....all was great. I took the bike out and put !out 200 miles on it. Yesterday, halfway into my 3 hour trip, it started again, and left me dead on the highway!!! This time though when I reached down and pushed on the battery it would go back to normal for a few minutes. The bike had 16" apes installed by the previous owner, along with a PC3 and slipons. I have since added VandH and remapped the PC. When we got the back to the garage I saw that the positive cable had arced the screw into the battery. Any ideas???? Could this be signs of the 2006 dyna stator issue, or do have another issue. Any suggestions or ideas...I was hoping to start cheap and work my way up, but I don't know where to start with this. I also wanted to add, that during the first 100 miles everything was great. I stopped for fuel and shut the bike off, and when I was pulling out it started missing and ultimately left me, unable to even start.

Not sure what you mean by: "cable had arced the screw into the battery"

2 things come to mind, water in the PCIII connectors, and the battery cables were not tight. Lot's of guys have had this issue, clean them, use a little dielectric grease to keep water out and maybe a wrap of tape around them.
The fact that adjusting the battery cured it for a bit is a big clue.

8541 hog. I should have said welded the screw into the battery, and the washer was split in half. I know the battery was connected tightly as I just replaced the positive and negative cables. Last night I took the battery out when I got back to the garage, and everything was tight. I will check the PC. The bike is dead now and will not start. I'm charging the battery now.

Since the 06 has a different battery box setup than the 05, not sure how it is held in place, but do you have arcing marks inside the battery box? Could it have been loose inside the box?

Basically on the 06, the battery sits in a plastic tray bolted to the frame. It is secured in place with a rubber strap. The inside of the battery cover has no marks.
Thanks folks for the suggestion.

Will do
Do you still have the grounding strap from the trees to your bars? That should prevent something like this getting back to the battery if it is in your bars.
