Default Clutch Adjustment

Sorry guys but I did a search for the answer and didn't get one.
I was adjusting the clutch, trying to get the heavy clunk out of trans and I think the ***** came out of the ramp. The cable is way too slack and I can't adjust it any more. Answers ? What do I do next ?
I have the manual and will follow it but I just thought somebody had a trick for making this easier...

the ***** could not come out of the ramp, there is a snap ring in there that holds it in place, you may have snapped the cable, i would first check to see if the cable is good, if it is, then move on to the set screw and jam nut, does that do anything? did you first loosen the adjuster on the cable by the down tube? if not you may have snapped the cable.
you can always pull off the clutch cable cover and look in there to see if you broke the ramp. if you did let me know i got 3

Default Clutch Cable

I may have broken the cable Joe. I just got through pulling the trans side door off and draining the trans. I will check to see if the cable is snapped inside the sheath. It didn't snap at the lever but I haven't checked the other end at the ramp yet.
I adjusted everything according to the book and the posts I found on here but when I went to adjust the lever play, it was way too tight and I started over about 6 times with the same results. Finally got P.O. and pulled the lever back to the handle bars and now there is no in/out movement of the clutch. I'll let you know...Thanks for the offer.

Default Clutch Adjustment

OK so here is the situation. Ramp and ***** are good...I put it all back together and adjusted the clutch as per the book. Good to that point. Then I go to adjuster the jam nut/cable tension and the clutch lever comes out as usual. I get the 1/8-1/16" of play, but when you pull the clutch lever in it will only come in half way and then stops/ is tight. I started the bike up and put it in gear but no joy...the clutch is not engaging the gears...
Anybody with any idears ?

Default Clutch

Yes on the pullback (only half way) no on the friction.

How far are you backing out the adjuster screw?

How tight are you screwing in the adjustment screw?
Take all the adjustment out of the cable. Loosen the jam nut, back off the center screw and then lightly seat it and then back off 1 turn, pull the lever a couple times, hold center screw and lock with jam nut. Set lever free play with cable adjustment.
Is that what you are doing?
Tough one to diagnose ???????

Default Diagnosis

I backed out the adjuster screw very far until there was no tension on it at all and collapsed the tension all the way. I just kept playing with it until I finally got it to work. I seriously don't know what I did differently this time but it worked. Kind of felt like the plates were sticking together.
Thanks everyone for the help and especially you Joe.
