Default 2000 FXDL advice

Hi everyone.
I own a 2007 XL 1200R which I am enjoying but recently my wife has started to say that she might enjoy an "occasional" ride. Yesterday I was at a local independent picking up a few things and he has a 2000 FXDL with 1900 original miles, bags, original and aftermarket pipes and some other accessories and is asking $8500.00 It honestly looks brand new. I'm thinking it might be more comfortable for the two of us and still be a nice solo ride.
Please tell me what you think of this bike.....good and bad....suspension, performance, reliability, whatever. I appreciate the help. If it sounds good I may take it for a ride this weekend and discuss a trade and numbers. Thanks!

I have a '00 FXDL and love it. It is great as a solo or 2-up bike. A buddy of mine who is not a Harley fan took it for a spin and came back with a grin from ear to ear. The bike is smooth in the turns with plenty of power.

I had a 99 dyna(first year TC) and i absolutely loved it. I plan on getting another Dyna soon. Fast, much more comfortable than a sporty, and never had any complaints from the ladys about not being comfortable on it.

I say go for it!!

I have a 2000 FXDL and it is a great bike. This is one of the model years that was effected by potential cam bearing problems. There is plenty written about this.

Ride and performance can be improved with some upgrades. Sounds like the owner did at least a stage one since he changed pipes. Ask if it is the stock cam. You may want to consider upgrading. The Andrews TW37 would be a good cam to consider. This would also take care of the cam bearing problem mentioned above. Other mods like going to a 95" and head work is also pretty common.

You can improve the ride by changing the rear suspension, if you think it needs improving. Check the tires and if they need to be changed, consider upgrading. I went with the Avon Venoms and they are a major improvement over the Dunlops.

For comfort, they have some nice sissy bar options (detachaable and rigid mounted) and some nice quick detach windshields.

Good luck!

Trade in the Sporty for the Dyna, you will love it. It will haul your girl much better and still be a great solo ride. Don't worry about the cam bearing thing since the bike only has break-in mileage. Just use Mobil 1 20-50 and go enjoy.
My 2001 FXDL had less than 8000 miles when I bought it; with a recent 75K dealer inspection and fluids changed . What a deal and I love it. It's much faster than my old 93 FXDL. YOU should but new tires on a 10 year-old bike regardless of low miles.

But you should take a long test ride, not just around the block, to see if you like it before you trade.

My gf has a 2000 FXDL we found last year for $6500 with 10k miles. It was a "distress sale" and much of the chrome was pitted from living near the beach. I'd say the price you're looking at, for the bike you describe, is a great deal.

She loves hers. No two-up but its very comfortable for her. Just won first place in the Harley class at the local swap meet/bike show.

Default Bteer have a great warranty at that price

I'd offer $6600tops.It will need new tires, new fluids and i would go with an andrews 26 w/ hyd cam tensioners. If your gonna ride 2up,you'll be going for new shocks in a few thousand miles. Book on that is about $5,000 www.kbb.com

I've got a 2006 Heritage and a 2002 Lowrider. I like them both for different reasons, but the most fun to ride is the Lowrider. I got my DL last October with 4600 miles for $5600. I think youcan do better on the price. Go with the KBB price mentioned above. Good Luck.
