I have no problem with long rides on my '04 WG. Could use a slightly cushier seat, but it's pretty damned comfortable as it is. One of the things I really like are the stirrups.

I just did 2000 miles in a week on my 2010 Wide Glide. I made the mistake of not taking my shield. My new 14" apes looked so good I just didn't want to ruin the looks with a shield. The Apes worked great and eliminated the back pain I was having with the stock drags.I'm 55 and have been riding since I was 19.Maybe I would feel different if I would have used my shield but I was dissappointed in the Wide Glide for touring.I missed having hard bags and thought the over all ride was not as good as I would have liked.I do really like the Wide Glide for around town and short country rides. There is a possibility I may trade next month when the 2011 Street Glides come out.

If you have the right seat you can ride just as comfortable as a bagger without the bells and whistles and you will get there much quicker too !

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds as if for what I would want to do 20 percent long trips this bike may be perfect. The looks of the bike is what has me leaning towards the wide glide. Just need to save the pennies for the 107" ! Botoom line it will come down to what is available and at what price. I can't go wrong either way is the way I feel now. Thanks again everyone.

I went from a wideglide to a electra glide classic, then back to a wideglide. I'm the same as you 80% around town, maybe one or two, week long trips a year. I have leatherpro bags, and a windshield, and the wideglide is fine for long trips.
