The Dyno Tune cost $300, I failed emissions and the dealer told me that they would tune it to pass emissions and then put it back to where it is after the Dyno. Its $183 to do this. But look on the bright side, they will ride it to the emission station and that must cost a lot.
I would explain to the "dealer" the fine for "tuning" a bike THAT won't PASS emissions and kindly tell them they are doing it for FREE ( I assume it was the dealer that did the TUNE!!). By the way I think off the top of my head it is $10K per bike for a dealer's fine for "bypassing" an emissions device!!
What about just giving Maricopa County the 'slow roll' ... that is, just let your sticker expire until after the emissions regulation lapses ....
Then 'suddenly realize' you were out of periodicity and renew your sticker at that time ....
I would think any late fee would be less than the costs ... and your risk of being stopped for an expired sticker would be rather low (as long as you're not being too obviously obnoxious to John Law) ....
and if you don't bring the bike in for emissions testing?
unless you can't register the bike or get it insured without passing emissions, why can't the conversation go like this?
"well we dyno'd the bike but now it won't pass emissions..."
"ok" then get on and ride home.
i'm really not trying to be a smartass, i'm just not clear on how that whole thing works
seems to me like if your bike was already insured, registered, and inspected...why would you ever willingly ride it to the emissions station for testing?
In Maricopa County the bike has to pass emissions testing every year before you can register it.
Last I heard, the fine for driving with expired tags is around $500.
No emissions test required until it is five years old.
