What is the story? I have seen many many posts bashing Screamin Eagle parts/builds. Is it the quality, price, sour grapes, what?!!!! Shouldn't the performance division of HD have the best parts and know the most about how to get the most from their own engines? I am not defending SE, I just would like to know is anybody satisfied with their Screamin Eagle builds? I have a opotunity to have my bike upgraded thru the dealer at a great discount using SE parts. Should I or should I not do it? TC 95 Stage IV TQ Carureted or HTCC Stage II Carbureted for under $3600 complete (including local sales tax)
Just an observation: If HD was the only outfit that knew how to get the goodies outta their own engines, S&S woulda been outta business decades ago. There's an advertiser on here that can do a 98" conversion on your motor that'll probably be less expensive than the HD 95 kit, plus it'll pump out more ponies, to boot. And I just read about a massage-job on a stock 88" motor that pushed the 100/100 numbers. So, like most everything else in life, ya chooses what suits ya, and ya pays the price.
I'm not saying that SE is or should be the only. Just want to see what all the bashing is about.
The 98 CI kit is more expensive if you factor in a new cab and ignition system, labor & tuning (I no longer have time to do major wrenching). But it looks mighty tempting!!!!!!!!!!!
Screamin Eagle parts are very good quality from Harley Davidson. There is the problem. Even though they are considered "High Performance" parts some of them still fall under EPA regulations since Harley produces them. Harley's heads are very good quality but not near as opened up as high performance heads from independant dealers like S & S and the people who are porting and polishing them. Heads are probably the most important part of a build besides the proper cams. I have a 95" Screamin Eagle engine on my 2000 SE Roadglide and without a lot of extra work it wasn't all that fast.
I chose Edelbrock heads over SEs for my Evo because, although their flow volume is lower, they have higher flow velocity in the RPM band wher I want to operate. From what I understand, this yields more power than the higher flow volume / lower flow velocity SE heads. From what I understand, ported stock heads also out-perform SE heads for all but high RPM applications where flow volume becomes a bigger issue. If you want all-out, top-end performance go with SE. Otherwise look to other solutions. That's my understanding, anyway.
