First - get the engine guards. A friend and I were riding the back roads of Texas a few months ago. He went into a corner a little too hot and laid his '06 Custom down, sliding across asphalt and heavy gravel. Because of the engine guards and saddlebags he did not get even 1 small scratch on the bike. Had to replace the right guard, but that was cheap compared to what tank or fender damage would have been.
Oh yeah, he scraped the heck out of his arm, but that grew back!
I understand Kuryakyn is coming out with a new "switchblabe" peg that will give you a 3" strech on your forward controls when you want. When you don't need the stretch they fold back into the footpeg.
They aren't available until December '06, and looks like they will be about $149 bucks a pair.
If you have passenger pegs you can put your feet back on these on long rides to get rid of that ocassional leg cramping disease.
Its kinda like riding a crotch rocket, and helps gets your head down in rain and high winds.
Actually makes for a comfortable position (just don't let other cruisers see ya!!) LOL.
You might cinstalling mid pegs. The mounting holes are there and bolts from Home Depot will fit. Just need the mounts. Mine give me three riding positions; on the front with the controls, straddlin front and mid, and on the mids alone. I never would have thought a subtle change would make such a comfortable difference on a long ride.
