I second that. I added these slip-ons and ran them with no download etc. for 1500 miles, dealer did not suggest one or feel one was necessary. Some deceleration popping, not a whole lot, but some. 1500 miles in I added a Heavy Breather and the download. (Glad I did, but there really wasn't a much of big performance gain; there was a bigger bump when I added the slip-ons)
Thanks I was hoping for that, dont think I'll bother with the High flow A/cleaner so for now then (even though I just bought it) dont fancy having to pony up for the SE tuner labour etc etc ...
It won't hurt anything. You may or may not notice some minor drivability issues or perhaps decel pop. Plenty of riders are riding with all kinds of exhausts without issue. You don't have to recalibrate with an air filter change, but drivability issues will be more noticeable. If you are adding an AF for power/mpg, it makes sense to retune to get the most out of your investment. You get much more bang for your buck from a decent tune than from an AF modification.
The only way to improve performance or address drivability issues, if you think you have to, is to re-tune. When the time comes, the factory downloads are a waste of hard earned cash, invest a few more $$$ in a decent tuner. Look at the TTS tuning kit for a good way to do it yourself and avoid stealer fees.

I put on SE A/C and SE slipons. A set of 13.8 XIEDs cured my heat and ping problems. Got them from a forum member for $60. Money well spent. I will be selling them soon. Just went to a S&S 106 BB.

Could you provide some details on what xieds are??

XiEDs are a simple resistor circuit you plug in between the O2 sensor and ECU. XiEDs shift the O2 voltage read by the ECU to trick the ECU to run just a little richer. If you want to make your own, you can search the net for instructions.
XiEDs works well for simply cooling the bike, but not so good for solving any driveability issues you may have.
Cured my 50-60mph surge problem too. Do a search. XIEDs have many threads. Some people like them and some don't. They did what I wanted and did it cheaply.
