I just bought a 2003 FXDL. I purchased it from a widow who doesnt know a thing about it. It rode fine yesterday, then thios mornig I could not start it..the security system will not shut off. They key has a fob but it doesnt seem to work, although it was fine yesterday. Nobody knows twhat the code is etc... What is the best thing to do in this situation? can i go to any dealer and get a new fob?? or can I disconnect this option?

 

When you try to dissable the securtiity system, are you just holding the button down or "Double Clicking" it. To shut off the security system you have to double click. Look at the turn signal lights for confirmation that the system has been dissabled.

 

Unfortunately there is no button to click. i thought it was a static fob, but maybe i don't have the right one. This just seems odd to me considerign I rode the bike all day yesterday without a problem.

 

If I ain't mistaken, 2003 models had fobs with one button. Hold it for a couple seconds to set the alarm. Ddouble click it (quickly) to shut off the security system. Do you have the owners manual? If so, there is a procedure for resetting the code to manually dissable the security system. It involves using the turn signal buttons and is kinda confusing, but I can look in my manual and send you the instructions if you need them.

 

Might need to replace the battery in the fob mine did that once and could not start bike because the fob battery was dead
