Baker 5 speed
I can get a good deal on a Baker 5 speed gearset; anyone here use one? Considerably smoother? Not real satisfied with my stock 5 speed; 2001 FXDXT with a built 103inch...don't ride freeways so not interested in the 6 speed, especially if I have to change out the primary...

If I were to change the gears in my bike it would be a Baker 6-speed direct-drive, rather than an over-drive. Can't see much gain in replacing the stock gears for another 5-speed. Have you tried any of the alternative transmission oils? Or an automatic primary chain tensioner? An M6 on my evo improved gear changes noticably. My Dyna is OK as it came new.

Only fluids I've tried are HD syn, HD dino and other brand gear oil; not much choice waaay up here; maybe next time I'm down in Edmonton I'll have to look around...as for the primary; I have a manual tensioner and it's set right...one of my brothers has a 95 FXD, same year, and it shifts way better...mine is not smooth between gears and under full power has failed to shift 2-3.....with the clutch, of course.
