I don't know the right height that's why I want to try the short one.
I only get buffeting when there is a headwind. I can move the screen up and down an inch or so with the clamps but I think just having a low shield will eliminate the buffeting and keep the pressure off the chest.
With the w/s in the lowest position, if you can't see clearly over the top, cut some off 'til you can--simple as that.
HI, I am new to the forum. I ride a 09 FXDC and I am thinking of purchasing a Harley Quick Relase Touring Winshield. I have used their sport models in the past on a Sporty and a Bobber. This one looks a lot bigger. Any one have any experiences with this shield. I will use it for trips as I like my Super Glide without when riding around home. Thanks for your input.
I've had these on three bikes now (two came with the bike and I bought one off ebay) and I have ended up selling them all. Like many others, I just couldn't live with the wind buffetting that comes around and under the screen. It made my head rattle and it was much worse than having no screen.
I know a lot of other people have complained of the same problems and some people also either don't get it or can live with it, maybe they ride slower than me or are much shorter. But just be warned that you could spend a lot on one of these screens and end up hating it after one ride.
Hey lo-rider, what would you use to cut the shield???
After masking the w/s to prevent the tool base from scratching, I'd use a sabre-saw with an appropriate blade, run at a low enough speed so as to not melt the plastic. Cut can be detailed with a sanding block or file once the correct height/shape is reached. I've heard of guys using Roto-Zips, routers, etc. Use whatever you have that you are competent with.
I just installed the quick detachable touring windsheild (18 inches tall) on my 2010 FXDB. It was real easy, took me about 10 minutes (including taking it out of the box) to install it. I love having it on for the long hauls, but it pops right off when I wanna go cruisin around town. I also have an HD quarter fairing the is interchangable with the quick detachable clamps.
Hey,. I appreciate all the replies. I don't like the buffeting myself, but riding here in the Mountains of Western North Carolina can be a bit cold from time to time, so thought a shield would give me a little more riding time. As i said, i have owned the smaller versions of these and always wanted a little more width during cold weather. Hope it helps as much as i think it will. I don't usually have a problem with them being too tall as i am real long waisted, it is from the waist down that i am verticaly challenged. i am r5' 11" but have a 29 inseam. oh well, no one is perfect. thanks again. oh, by the way, where did those lowers come from?
I have both.........the QD Compact AND the QD Touring windshields. My compact gave me terrible head buffetting and shaking of my mirrors. I felt like I went 20 rounds with Ali after a ride. I bought the Touring windshield as it was a little taller and wider than the Compact model. I'm here to tell you with the Touring W/S I have ZERO head buffetting and I can actually USE and SEE out of both of my mirrors even at speeds of 85mph. No more shaking and I have CLEAR VISION out of both.
They DO NOT SELL the LEXAN separately for the Dyna models. You have to buy the entire set up. Believe me I researched that and spoke to everyone.
So, if there was a choice......get the Touring QR. You wont be sorry.

That's why I got mine. I ride 41 miles one way to work here in Chicago down to 30* and I figured I could go colder but the cold air comes from underneath and up my nose and I think it is worse than having it hit me in the chest. That's just me.
I have the touring windshield for my bike. The only thing I don't like about it is I get a lot of wind-steer cruising over 60 MPH. But it works great for back road cruising in the cooler months or during bug season.
