Alright guys, sorry for the longer post, im trying to hit as many normal questions about this as I can, so people dont have to ask....
started this project last night...ended up pissed off...gave up for the night.
I am trying to get a 21" wheel on my streetbob hub, been done before by lots of people, so I figured I could do it no sweat. I found a 21 from a softail in mint condition for 40 bucks, so I have the rim. I still had my 21" from my 06 sporty wreck a few years back, which the rim got bent ever so slightly, so I have the half long and half short spokes from a narrom hub for a 21", and finally, I have my hub from my stock 19" from the SB, so I should be good as far as parts needed.....
Basically, I tried it like 3 or 4 times last night, and it was already getting close to one, and I get up at 5 for work=unhappy.
You guys have any tips for a first time wheel lacer? Where should I start? I had been trying and entire loop of the short spokes on the brake side, every fourth hole on the wheel. Which one should I do after that? The long ones on that side? The short or long on the other? Should I do both sides before I go all the way around?
you're a brave man for trying - this is one job i'll never attempt on my own. Maybe if I could work with an experienced guy a few times (about 500x should do it) I'd give it a go as a solo project, but this is one of those items that seems like a catastrophic failure if done incorrectly
any videos on you tube? Good luck getting it figured out - I prefer doing my own work, but I also know my patience level and pay if it'll keep my blood pressure lower
Well honestly, Im sure Ill be able to get it done, jsut like I said, it was late, so I gave up for the night, and am at work now, so I figured I may as well as for some tips if they are out there. I think it is probably key to have the whole thing layed out in a organized fashion, before I start
I did a write up in it a while back. I was able re-use the stock spokes with the rim I used, and was able to leave them laced to the hub, but I think the pictures will still help. It isn't that difficult once you understand the pattern. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...nd-spokes.html
dont worry jstreet, I have studied your write up, lol, to the point of almost complete memorization...however I was under the impression that you had to rearrange the stock 19" spokes, since they are a bit shorter, so I didn't think it would apply to me, am I incorrect? I didnt want to use my 19" spokes since I already had a set of 21" that would work.

I just looked in the manual and to me it looks like the pattern is the same for 19 and 21 stock wheels. Skip exactly 3 holes. I think the difference is just in the center depth of the Jerih rim.

Ok, well Ill give your pattern a try then....looks like it should work for mine fine, I just wasn't sure with the spoke thing.

thanks
You might PM user DeltaDog. He is using a different rim probably closer to yours. I can't tell by his pics. I think the pattern would be the same, but he should be able to tell you for sure.
well, right now, since I have all factory parts, Im plannin on just using some pictures that I got from the internet, and your method of outer, inner, flip, outer, inner. Really, I think there should only be one way they will fit correctly...
