I rode for almost 2 years without a windshield, and after long rides I would feel beat up and often have a sore neck also. Finally gave in and got the quick release super sport w/s. There's no going back. For me, comfort wins. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Just an update. Got my low profile HD windshield yesterday. Put a couple hundred miles on it. Of course today temperature in the 80's. The mounting are strong and nicely made. I immediately took the bike on I-80 and was able to easily cruise at 95 mph. I can still feel the wind around my head. The most important thing for me was the ease of visibility. The low profile dosen't seem to deminish visibility. By the way did not notice any vibration or flex on the windshield. So far so good.

Please tell me how tall your windshield is above the headlight. I put on the quick release "standard" H-D windshield (the top is 18" over the headlight) and the wind buffeting above 60mph is intense. I'm 5'9" and wear a full face helmet. I opened the helmet, it's a HJC Symax, and it didn't help. I'm thinking of cutting three inches off the top of the windshield. I tried the "arm in front of the chest" thing, to see if the buffeting was caused by wind under the windshield and that didn't help. Right now, I have the windshield lowered as far as it will go and my eyes are looking just over the top of the windshield. I tried moving it up on the forks and that didn't help. If I can't come up with a solution I'll have to take the windshield off and put it on eBay.

This is also to Black Bart if two previous attepts at communication did not work. Just measured my low profile. At top position on strut it is measuring 16 1/2 inches above light. Rode 300 mi today most at 70mph across Pocono Mtns.; so there was a strong cross wind. Wind was hitting my face and had concern the overglasses I wear were not secure enough. Bugs over windshield, but none on glasses. That was a first. Bike handles beautifully with no vibration of windshield. I can not tell whether wind felt was enhanced by windshield or whether the fact that wind was not hitting upper body made wind feel stronger on face. I will probably be changing over to goggles. I haven't ridden with a windshield before and was hesitant to say the least. I like it. I hope you guys get yours set up to where it is comfortable.

Larry,

The angle of the windshield can make a difference in buffeting. The ideal position seems to be for the shield to align with the angle of the forks or tilted slightly toward you from that angle. If you can adjust the tilt angle, maybe the shield will work for you.

Thanks, Robert.

I thought of that but there is no adjustment on the windshield. I thought about grinding the two, bottom, slots in the clamps deeper so the bottom of the windshield can swing forward. I may do that before cutting a new windshield.

Larry I don't know if I would mess with the braces. I have a feeling they are more expensive then a piece of new plexiglass. Just looking at mine I think I would try small washers under the middles and end plexiglass mounting bolts. This may give you the needed angle you are looking for. I am probably wrong, but I always thought buffeting ment wind off the windshield causeing handling problems. If your are talking about the wind around your head with the exception of sitting and looking through the windshield, completely, I dosen't seem to be of anyway to prevent this.

I'd love to add a slant to mine. Never measured it but it's a pretty big windshield.

I think the majority of my wind buffeting is coming from under my windshield and up my legs though. I'll try the one arm across the chest deal. Good thinking. My windshield cuts off under my line of sight. I haven't noticed any problems when looking over/through it. May be different on a night ride though.

I took the two bottom bolts out of mine and swung the windshield out at the bottom until the windshield followed the line of the forks. I turned the two, bottom, clamps so they held the windshield out and took a ride. I ran it up to 70 mph and it was much better. Looks like I'll make a couple links, from 1" wide aluminum bar stock, to connect between the windshield bracket and the fork clamps. Looks to be about 1-1/2" long. I'll drill a hole in each end. The windshield goes up against the speedometer housing when the top of the windshield is moved back. I have a small, rubber, pad to put between the two.
