Default New Headlight Install?

Just received my new headlight. Do I have to remove the tank to get to the wire plug to unplug the OEM and plug in the new one? I followed the wire loom and it goes into the frame in front of the tank but I can't tell what happens to it from there.

Yea it would make it easier. I replaced mine and I just cut the wires and soldered them together and heat tape shrunk them to make it look good. But after that I had to remove the tank for another project I was doing and now I got it down to a science that I can remove it in 15 min. So if I decide to redo my headlight again I will remove the tank. But plain and simple it would make it easier and neater to remove it.

I got some help here https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...p-install.html

In your sig line, you say you're looking for a gas tank? Won't you have to remove the one you're sending out?

Oh well.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I'll have to remove the tank for painting. But unfortunately that is likely going to be a winter project. I had hoped to find a cheap tank by now so that I could do the paint and not miss any ride time. But so far have not found one so the paint (possibly powdercoat) will probably be later.

I want to see the new headlight now. I really dislike the black one on there now.

Happy day! Headlight is on.

Followed the thread posted above. Mud's write up showed me how.

Should have taken a before and after picture. But all I got with me is my cell phone camera.

Could you post the link to the thread/write-up from Mud you're referring to? Please.

I think that the way I did mine was alot easier. I just took the plug in the light apart then slid the wires through the hole in the bucket and ran them into the new light.
No cut wires and I didn't even touch the tank.
