Well, I just polished off what was left of a worn out back tire this weekend. Now I need a new 130/90-16 back tire. No chance I'm going to the dealer to get beat up on, so I need some do it yourself ideas. I just put an Avon 21 incher up front, but I don't want to spend Avon money on a back tire. Looking for cheap, but long lasting. Remember, this bike has a 3 over Springer, so super sticky, great handling back tires are an utter waste of money. I want LONG LASTING for heavy two up riding. Please recommend without the high dollar options.
Well, I don't know what you consider cheap, but I paid less than 175 shipped to my door for Metzeler ME880 160x16 rear. I got 16k out of the last one, well not the very last one, had a flat on it's replacement at 3k...$%^&
Check out Jakewilson.com If you do the change yourself and use Dyna beads there is no other cost involved.
I just switched to Dyna beads and am very pleased with them.
I just ordered a set of the Dunlop D401 which are Harley branded and recommended tire. This is the site i found the best pricing for them. The link is for the sizing you need.
I just put a Dunlop elite 3 from JakeWilson on my 04 Ultra. I have gotten the best mileage from the Elite 3's than the Met's. It is a 140/16. It cost me $124.00 with 3 day shipping. I took the wheel off myself & took it to the local Metric shop, cost me $18.00 for mount & bal. Couldn't do it any better or cheaper myself. I will put the same brand on my 03 WideGlide when it's due.
Yeah, $175 is a no go. Thats just too much for a freakin' tire. I'm stuck between the super cheap, but still better than say Chang-Shen or Shinko, Kenda's: $63 delivered to your door http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KENDA...Q5fAccessories
I just don't want to burn up another tire in less than 8K miles. Pirelli and Metezler make great tires but they aren't cheap. And theres no chance I can get an Avon for under 100 bucks. Its really starting to look like another Dunlop but the fact 8541hog got 16K out of a Metz makes me think a little. Its not cheap if I need two in the same time as 1 that costs more, but lasts.
"Hahaha, Probably like me, he likes to get his moneys worth"
Yeah, thats a FACT!
Now, One LAST question. Do you guys think a whitewall on the rear might be worth the extra cash or would it look dumb as hell on this bike? Oh, and for reference sake, I took this picture August 3rd. Tread was low, but at least there was some last week!
