Plugged in HD Battery Tender this am and unit had flshing amber light - means battery is not charging. Tender is around 4 years old.
Bike starts fine so I'massuming battery is Ok and not too low to take a charge.
Bringing tender to a buddy's tonight and attaching it to his bike. Hoping that the tender went south so I can just replace it.
If the tender works on his bike I'll check the connections on mine.
In the meantime I removed the seat and battery cover to look for anything obvious.
Attached is a pic that shows a yellow thing with a connector not attached to anything. I'm not mechanically inclined so I have no clue if that is good or bad.
That is heat shrink tubing. It is generally used to protect the electrical connections from getting exposed or corroding. It is just a protective sleeve. However lookiing at it it is possible that if the bend is too drastic over time it could cause the wire to break and lose the connection in there. So it could just be your connection could be bad and tender and battery are fine. Pick up some new shrink tubing, local Radio shack or electrical supply and what you want to do is cut that tubing open and check the connections. If you want to use shrink tubing again you would actually have to take the connections apart and slide the tubing on 1st and then reconnect. I own a company that installs lights, sirens, radios and equipment in police cars. Its easy if you have any questions or need anything else PM me and I can walk you through it.
After looking at the photo again it would be real easy to replace the tubing as you could slide it right over the connector and into place. It appears that there is extra wire that instead of cutting and shortening to the proper length it is coiled in there. It can be shortened and cleaned up and apply another shrink tube over the top. Also check to see if there are any inline fuses that may have blown. Could be a cheap fix.
