Making the FXD more comfortable
Maybe its just the age setting in, but I started looking for ways to make My 2007 FXD a little more comfortable. I settled on some air shocks from a 2009 Road King, a Mustang Vintage seat, and a pair of Metzler 880 tires. What a difference! Rides like a completely different bike now. It's comfortable enough for the longer trips, but I can still get agressive in the corners without feeling like the rear end is going to wallow out. If you need a little more comfort, this has worked out well for me.

those shocks are beautiful. i would also be interested in putting those on my ride. i like the fact they look like they have gaiters. awesome.

I'm more interested in the seat. i have tryed several so far the mustang tripper solo has been the best.but I'm 67 and think i need a better seat for my back.how do you like the seat. or would you prefer to have the shocks or do you need both.

The shocks were found on ebay for about $80. I had put the Mustang vintage seat on first and that was pretty comfortable. A couple of weeks later the shocks were added (HD 54565-09). The RK shocks are different than the SG shocks. The RK shocks are 13" from bolt to bolt. They are an easy install if you jack up the back of the bike. A couple of washers for spacers are needed to clear the belt guard. I tried a couple of variations of PSI, and found that 15 psi works pretty good for my 185 lbs. I put in the air valves found at the hardware store for $2.50 each. The Metzler tires aren't fazed by the road seams and cracks that are numerous in these Vermont roads. I am very happy with the ride. Don't even have to dodge manhole covers anymore.

I wrote raving reviews on the Metzlers when I first put a set on my SuperGlide... Sorry to say that the rear was worn completely out in 7k miles and the front was worn so unevenly that they hummed really bad if you leaned left or right.
Costly mistake for me... hope they work out for you.

Sorry to hear that about the Metzlers. I read they were getting anywhere from 7000-10000 miles. I hope I get more than one season on them. They really do hold the road though.

Yes but you can get brand new take offs (set) for under $100, I got the same 54565-09 as the OP. A lot of ebay listings say they are 13" but they are actually 12.75" I put a set on my 10 FXDC and they bolt right on, ride much better than the stock shocks or the cheapo china copies, don't drag anything or do anything bad and only cost $71 on ebay. Lots of people pull them off touring models and no one seems to want them except Dyna and Sportster folks so the prices tend to stay low. You can get a kit from HD with the lines, bracket, union. the shock fittings are a separate item.........total cost for all that stuff about $55 plus you need a good pump - get the one from $50 from HD or this one that looks identical other than colour and it doesn't say HD on the dial for $25
