I have done some research and narrowed it down to two, the Progressive 412's or some air shocks. I ride mostly 2 up I weigh 170 lbs and the wife weighs 110, so around 280 total lbs. Which shock would be better for riding comfort?
I have the 440's and love them. I chose them over the 412's because of the "better valving" and they are great. Probably one of the best mods I have done. I know others will say all kinds of crap about Progressive but my experience with these is very good.
I'm not going to say any crap about progressives because that's what is on my Dyna. Either the 412 or 440 that were suggested are a good choices. I feel that the 440 is a better shock, but it's more expensive to. Let your wallet be your guide. I've got air shocks on my RK, and I'm ready to change them out. They are OK, but the truth is I like the progressives better. You may want to take a look at Ohlin shocks also.
For the money, standard non lowering air shocks are a decent upgrade - not up to Ohlins standard but for roughly $150 (including a shock pump) you can have some new HD (takeoffs) air shocks that ride decent, improve cornering clearance, and don't do anything bad. These are 54565-09 that I got on ebay for $71 and they work pretty well, no complaints and worlds better than the stock pogo sticks.
Will these bolt right up on my 04 Low Rider? What do you have them on? I measured eye to eye on my bike and it is 12 inches. These are 13" I think, will they fit?
Did you measure with the wheel off the ground? I have a 10 FXDC which also came with 12" shocks. As far as I know all HD shocks use 1/2" shock bushings, at least these do both top and bottom so yes............they bolt right on. I have heard some needing to put a few washers behind the LH shock for belt guard clearance (mostly a sporty thing) but I didn't need to. Fully extended the air shocks I got are 12.75" so they will raise your ride height a bit (not more tire showing under the fender) but not excessively so.
No I actully measured them with wheels on the ground, I think I have decided to go with the Progressive 412's. I like the chrome more than the black, thanks for all your imput I may try the air later. I think anything is going to be better than the OEM shocks.
