Your buddy may have had it 'maintained' yearly, but you have no clue how he actually rode the bike. Was he hard on take-offs? Liked smoking the tire once in a while? Etc. Riding habits contributed to the chain failure as much as the sitting too long.
Hey,lockednloaded,I rode right past you when I picked the bike up,I got it in E.Nassau, where my buddy lives.Went right thru Cahtham on Rt 66.Thanks for the words of support.Look forward to meeting up one day,a good friend of mine just got an '03 Low Rider,me and her plan to do some trips, she lives in Greenwood Lake and I got a place in Fishkill,I'll drop you a line when I get the bike back and we plan a trip.I gotta get ahold of my buddy that sold me the bike,I really didnt want to talk to him about the problem yet, dont want him feeling like he hosed me,or that I think he did.But Zack tells me the chain was likely over tightened,he says the final drive belt is tighter than a banjo string,so he assumes the chain was too.I want to find out if the dealer he had do the service adjusted them or if he did it himself. Thanks to all for the adice etc.I really aint getting "down on Harley".Its just kind of ironic that I spent most of my younger riding days ribbing my Harley friends,as they did me about my metric bikes, that I finally go "over to the other side" and I get a taste of what I've been riding them about. What goes around....I am sure when I get the bike back I'll be in love with it again,I was quite impressed with it for the few miles I did ride it.
Stokes, Nice to hear from a neighbor. My husband and I are also from upstate, Columbia county o be exact, and we drive 60 miles to use Zack's for any work we can't do ourselves. He can be a little pricey but he knows what he is doing (Got to say those Victory's in his shop are smart looking!) If you're ever planning on riding a little further north, give us a ring. We're actually heading to Mnt Greylock tomorrow for a little spin and to see what Ronnie's HD has that we can spend some $$ on. Enjoy your new ride - Once she is up and running smoothly. DW
Just reading this today, but small world here LNL. I also rode over the top of Mt.Greylock on Thursday on my way home from Ronnies. (I live in Greenfield, MA) What an improvement in that road since the last time I rode it and dented two rims. (Sorry for the hijack)
Sorry to continue your hijack but that road was beautiful now. Going back in about 3 weeks - after Blackthorn - to see the leaves and ride it again. Went to the summit and watched the gliders launching off. Had a blast, gave our $ 2 parking passes to a couple more bikes to save them some $$ and headed down the backway into N. Adams for some slow twisties. Loved it. If you go back up and want some riding buddies, pm me. Maybe we'll hook up.
