Went to start bike and it acted like the battery was dead had enough for lights and all but not enough to even turn it part way over so I thought 4 year old battery ill just get new one I put it in checked out good on the volts went to start it and same thing like the battery is too low .Do I need VR or stator ????? any help Id appreciate
Start with the simple stuff (that's all I know) by making sure both battery post connections are tight, as well as any ground wires. If nothing is changed, charge the battery and try again.
Thanks and I did that looked all over for loose wires and havent found anything YET.Im thinking stator but not really sure .This is one of those trial and errer things I guess .Just trying to avoid going to dealership cause of the fact they charge out the ***.I f I new or understood the consept of battery stator VR silinoid starter might help .
If you have a new AND fully charged battery, then the bike would start even if you didn't have a stator, rotor, and voltage regulator installed. The purpose of those items is to provide a regulated DC current sufficient to keep the battery charged.
If you're sure that the battery is topped up, then the problem is the starter or solenoid. The solenoid is an electromagnetically operated switch to allow high current to be switched on and off from a remote location with smaller wires. A type of relay.
agreed, tighten up the terminals and give it a charge.... if it is old and needs replaced i sugest JP cycles battery i just put one in mine and love it. if that does not do it let us know and we can go from there bud
Clean and re-tighten connections and re-charge battery as has been stated. If you need a new battery, East Penn Mfg. makes Deka batteries which Harley uses.
Thanks guys Ill check all wires and make sure everything is attached .I had that thought as well new battery fully charged it should turn over but I bet its in the solenoid. I hope anyways cause I really hate the guessing game plus it can be expensive.
Ok took starter off put in vise and hooked it up and gear comes out like it supposed when you hit starter button.BUT it dont turn so I took pliers got a hold of it and it felt like it was in a bind so I turned it a few times and now it works Gear comes out and turns .Havent put back in yet not sure if I should buy new starter or just see what happens with this one .Can these be rebuilt???? Oh and Thanks guys for the advice
