It very well may be the tank bolts. I will check them when I get home! I did just get back from a pretty long trip, could have vibrated them loose a bit.
As far as "ridiculing" people for thier lack of diagnostic skills, which none of you have done by the way. I think it is ridiculous. That is part of what these forums are for. I have only been riding for about a year and a half now. No way I would know to check the tank bolts..thats what you fine folks are here for!
Thanks, I will check back later tonight and let you know if this solves the issue!
I had a clanking problem but it turned out to be the rubber kickstand bumper. It kept moving on me and would make the kickstand hit the frame. It is easy to check. If you put the kickstand up it should sound like a soft thud of metal hitting rubber.
I finally had to replace mine when the rubber split. So far the new one is staying in place.
Had two different dealer "techs?" tell me the clanking noise was normal for a dyna and that they all had noisy front ends. Three more techs at an indy shop rode it around but couldn't pinpoint where the noise was coming from but pretty much agreed it wasn't normal. On a whim I took off the seat and whaddya know, there was no bolt in the rear tank mount. Bought a bolt, tightened it down and the front end suddenly lost the clank and has been nice and quiet ever since.
In June I took a 3500 mile or so trip, the last 830 mile or so day was done with hours going 80 and more. . . . The next day there was that clank. Was the tank bolt.
