About a week ago, I started noticing a little clanking noise when I hit bumps. It does not happen every single bump I hit. There is no set speed it happens at either. It is weird, sometimes I hit huge bumps and nothing, sometimes small bumps and I hear it. It is very intermittent. Any ideas?
1. tighten gas tank bolts front & rear
2. Check upper motor mount where it bolts to the engine
3. Re-torque your steering head nut.
4. Check jiffy stand to make sure it is resting on the rubber stop when in up position and not hitting frame.

I had a similar problem myself on my 09 FXDB. Felt it a bit on my left footpeg. Check the distance from the bottom of your engine to the frame as compared with another bike. Mine was riding too close, which turned out to be a bad front engine mount. Hope this helps...
There was a guy who posted here that he was disgusted with his bike and wanted to sell it because it made him feel sick just looking at it. He took it to the dealer to diagnose and repair a clunking noise he picked up while riding to a location on business. Fuel tank bolts were loose and the dealer charged him $50 to tighten a bolt. His bike was still on factory warranty, but overdue scheduled service. Dealer said it would would have been caught and corrected had he brought it in for scheduled maintenance because it's on the checklist. Dealer wouldn't budge. It wasn't the selling dealer which I'm sure would have made a difference. HDForum members, in all their glory, showed no compassion while ridiculing the OP for his pi$$ poor attitude and apparent lack of diagnostic ability... which is of course true; LOL... check your tank!
To the post above, a rubber stop on the frame is stock. If it's missing, or misaligned, it would definitely cause a clunk, but you should hear it crack every time you raise the stand.

yeah sometimes people ridicule too much and im sure we've all sometimes been there, something simple that can easily be fixed, may just need another eye on the bike to find it, maybe even ask a friend around with a bike, hard to tell over the internets.
