Default 1st 1000 mile service question

I have a 2010 Superglide I'm wondering how many miles over 1000 is too many for the first service and can I do it myself or should I take to the Harley shop?

I heard 1200. Wouldn't go too far past because break-in leaves a lot of tiny shiny bits in the oil.

As long as your close within couple hundred miles would be good. You can definatly do it yourself. Get you a manual, torque wrench(for ft. and in. lbs) and torx and hex sockets. And keep your reciepts.

Did mine myself and I wouldnt go much over the 1000 if possible. I am sure these metal shavings could plug the oil filter quickly

is HD's machining still so crappy that they leave the tolerances that off?

this should not be an issue in 2010....

My dealer was all to happy to do mine over the winter at 600 miles. I didn't have a garage then so the free winter storage worked out.

I went ahead and let the dealer do my 1k service .. at around 1200 miles. They said up to 1500 was fine for the first one.

I'll be doing all the others myself, along with any other work/upgrades my humble wrenching skills can manage.
