Default Necessary tonremove push rod covers when changing rocker box covers?

Reading thru the manual before I tackle the rocker box covers and housing. The steps take u all the way thru taking te whole cylinder off.

My question is, is it necessary to remove the push rod covers? I'm just trying to see at which step can I start replacing the covers.

You'll have to at least remove the top keepers that are spring loaded in there.. Pull down on the collar in the middle and pull the keeper out. That will take the pressure off..

You need to unload the pushrods for the cylinder that you are pulling rocker off of, and it's easiest to check that with the covers off. You'll have to pull them off anyways because the lower rocker box ties into the covers....so yeah.

It's not that hard to mess with. If you need a video of it, I'll whip one out for you. It'll only take me like 10 minutes to set up the camera and go out to the bike and pop the covers and put them back on and then upload it.

When you pop the rockers, don't forget that you need new gaskets and don't forget the breather as well.

Hope it helps.

Man thatwould be awesome. I always learn better by seeing rathean reading something. Everything else seems to be fairly simply explained. I'm just not grasping it totally about the rods. A video would be awesome!

If you are only changing the Top covers then the answer is no...If you are changing both Top and Bottom than the answer is Yes and it is really not that hard to do...It is really nice of AFHuey to make a video for you on the proper way to do the pushrods....Goodluck I am sure you will be just fine. I did my Top Covers last winter it only took less than an hour to do including removing the tank. Make sure you have a torque wrench blue loctite and a ratcheting box wrench really helps on the left side....and of course new gaskets and o rings...

Going to have to buy a "dog bone" to torque it down. And do so with wrench at 90 degrees for proper torque value.

******, when people say "take the load off the pushrod of the cylinder you're working on" means you need to rotate the engine (usually by putting the bike in gear and rotating the rear wheel) till the piston is at top dead center. Pull the spark plug and use a normal size drinking straw. When it comes all the way up you're there, and you can safely do what you need to do without damaging the pushrods, etc.

Dang, you read my mind. I'm thinking of changing my upper and lower rocker box covers to chrome also. Is there anyway I could get a copy of that video? It would be greatly appreciated!
