A buddy at a wedding said its possible, with the same wheel? He may have had too much to drink since he was the one getting married!! Im curious if anyone has? It may be easier to do a 180.
Thanks
a 180 is definately possible, i have one on mine. but i also have new wheels. but there are a few 180 tires designed to fit on a stock 17 inch wheel.
that being said, when i ordered my new wheels, they sent me a 200... that thing was wide... i looked at it and said theres no way, you may be able to make it work, but i think it will be alot of work. i highly doubt it will work with a stock 17, i can almost promise it wont fit that wheel, but anything is possible. it will fit with new wider rear wheel, and probably have to cut the struts off and space the pulley out or get a thinner belt, idk really what all the steps are
a 180 is perfect back there. fills the fender up nicely.
unless you are in for heavy modification, stick with 180
I will let you know tomorrow. I have talked to people on this forum that did it with their stock fender and no TT or Sputhe so going to give it a shot. I measured and it seems to fit under the fender... again I will let you know. I also have a 1K mile hike to do on Thursday, so will really get to test it out there too. I have already moved the lights off the fender struts so shouldn't have issues with the wires...
get to settle all the yeas and nays for good. I had the dealer put on my 180 back in the day so they reset alignment on my engine and I have an 18 x 5.5 wheel, but that is it... got my fingers crossed.
The 180 tire is the standard upgrade on 06 dynas and up but the tires are specialy made for the standard rim ie the SE 180.HD sells the wide tire kit but most don't use it,just tuck the wires out of the way.
Stepping up to a 200 tire is'nt as simple as fitting a 200 tire to the stock rim, does'nt work like that. You either have to get a 17x6 cross bones rim laced to your 06 or later hub or buy a complete cross bones wheel, then theres the issue of different bearing sizes (06-07 1"-08 and later 25mm)which has to be taken in to account.
Other than that its an 18x5.5 wheel option..
Do a search here for dyna 200 tires..
Heres a link to one thread that might help
I have a 180 on a 5.5 HD wheel. The 180 fits great but not much fun when you try to remove it as it is tight! LOL The only concern, other than what was mentioned above, i.e. wires, axle diameter, etc. would be the drive belt rubbing against the tire sides. My 180 is dam close!
There are several threads on the forum. Do a search. Folks were successful in doing it so it probably is not that difficult!
