2006 Wide Glide stem washer replacment
One problem I am having is with the fall away test.
Rigged up a pointer on the barstool in my garage and the gauge made with painters tape across the front fender.Torqued everything to specs and did the test. The fall away from right to left (Standing in front of the bike, looking at the fender) was way off the width of the fender.Fall away from left to right was around the edge of the fender.I couldn't really get a good reading on it,but figured it was way off, more than the shop manuals recommended 2"-4" variable.
I took the bars off a third time and backed the stem nut off about 3/4" and removed the lower pinch bolts, and WD 40'ed them to ensure the fork tubes were moving in the lower tree.Slowly lowered the bike till the tire touched the ground and still couldn't get enough room to get to the adjustment nut.'
Tried a punch to get it to turn, but no good.I got maybe 1/16" between the top tree and the goose-neck.Didn't really want to screw something up,so I repeated the procedure twice and same results.
I aint too bad with a wrench, but didnt want to take a chance on really screwing something up in the front end.
Where in the hell am I goin wrong here?Hell Ive put the bars off and on five times and it got old.
Thanx in advance for any help..........Planning on doing the ground zero ride on Saturday and taking the Glider on that run. This could be a long *** Friday night.
