Default Guys with a little tuning experience...

Guys,

Little bit of background...I have a 2010 FXDF. I have about 2500 miles on it, purchased in June, and it's still bone stock. I put synthetic in everything at the 1000 mile service and I live in south Florida.

Is there a "safe mode" or something similar that the bike goes in to when it gets too hot? When I ride the bike in to work in the morning I get great throttle response and love the ride. On my way home in the afternoon, the bike rides fine until I get into town (for about 15 miles). Once I get in town, it's like riding a completely different bike. Poor throttle response, no acceleration. Almost falls on it's face at a light (I don't have the rear cylinder cutout activated) when I'm taking off. Then when I'm about to get out of town I open her up a little bit, but nothing happens. It's like I roll open the throttle and the revs come up, but the bike doesn't increase speed as quickly as it does in the morning or just a couple miles before town. Back to the question...could this be due to some safe tuning in the ECM or do I have something bigger going on?

Thanks!

Yes. The bike will shut down one cylinder when it's overheating.

It could also be the HEAT in Florida. Cool in the morning and HOT in the afternoon. Obviously, the air density helps power, but there is also an IAT table that can pull spark as temperature increases.

SC-Longhair I don't have the rear cylinder cutout programmed. In fact, all 2010 dyna's have to have this turned on at the dealership. The dealer wanted to charge me for it so I didn't do it, yet.

Could this just be a clutch slippage problem? Was it doing this before you changed fluids to synthetic? What oil did you put in the primary?
Colin.

I forget what oil it was, but it's the same stuff you can run in the transmission, primary, and engine. I didn't notice it right after the fluid changes, but probably soon after. Clutch slippage is probably a possibility. I'll look into that tomorrow.

Sounds like your dealer is trying to rip you off to turn it on. Read your owners manual about your Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS). It's simple to activate.

That being said, the best way to cool it down is a fuel management system. Hope this helps.

Sounds like clutch slip. All dealers do not turn on the temp control. In fact the default stage one map has it disabled.
Adjust your clutch.
