WOW....your bike looks awesome! I'd like to do the same VRod front en conversion but before I start collecting parts could you please give more details on the parts used for the front end(front wheel\axle\rotors) and the work it took to make this happen.

thanks
Mat

Mat,

I was lucky to find my V-rod forks, axel and wheel on Craigs list locally for a reasonable price, The forks were from an 07 V-rod, and the wheel was from an 06 Street Rod. To run the brembo calipers up front you need fork lowers from the factory with the caliper mounting location located for brembos (V-rod or touring, and touring won't slide into a Dyna triple clamp). This might not be an easy find to locate all the V-rod parts for a reasonable cost. The most reasonable way to add another brake for a dual front brake system would be to acquire a Fat Bob right side lower and the corresponding HD brake caliper. Several HD 19 inch wheels have the hub threaded for an additional right side rotor. These kind of mods take research, measurement at your local dealer, time and sometime moderate fabrication skills. If there is a will there is a way.

I thought you could just get the one side fatbob slider but once I did I found that the fender mounts are in substantially different places - you could probably make it work but its gonna look funny.

For those of us who want some help in doing a mod that holds our lives in our hands, there's Howard at MotorcycleMetal.com who did this conversion for me on my '06 Streetbob. Check out his website- it has the conversion kit and prices listed. It's the same approach as discussed here- using V-Rod lowers and some fabricating along with the Brembo's from the FL's. I have data on how much better the conversion works: 50 to 0 mph was 95 feet with the stock single rotor, but with the Dual Brembos I now stop in 75 feet.
If I could wave a magic wand I'd get this upgrade on every Dyna made. Just yesterday a cager ran a red light and almost killed a driver in an SUV and me on my bike. I stopped in time because of those brakes. Maybe I'd be here anywhere, but maybe not! Good luck. Jay

That's certainly a vast improvement! How scientific was your comparison?

My previous Harley was an '89 FXRS-SP, which came stock w/ dual-disc front brakes. While it was a lighter bike, still, my '09's brakes are pathetic, in comparison--just barely adequate for riding solo w/ 60# luggage. So I'm interested in this upgrade. The added unsprung weight and cost are strong considerations, for me, more so than finding an attractive cast wheel or replacement hub for my rim.

You already have a dual disc hub - its all the rest of the bits that make it an issue.
