PowerComander Gray Area
I'm looking around for an EFI solution to cool down my running temp. ThunderMax is expensive and confusing as to what total package I need for the so called "no dyno tune ever again" scenario. The PowerComander looks promising for a reasonable price but when I look at the software screenshot I'm confused on the following: It shows this big gray area that covers 0 thru 4500 rpms and much of the lower throttle postions, and it states the the settings in this area cannot be modified ? What exactly does this mean. This is the rpm range that I mostly drive in, if PC cannot modify this area how is it going to do me any good? Obviously I must be missing something.
I installed a PCV on my '10 WG and have been satisfied with the performance. Had it dyno'd during the install and its easily adjusted to suit anyones bike. Check with a good tuner in your area and see what he recommends.

Hi pcbunn, see my reply to joe1955 on PC, by the way how is your Oil Temp dip plug doing ? Still having any problems with it ? I would like to implement an oil temp and even more importantly an oil pressure gauge. I am amazed the the factory does not put oil pressure gauges on machines of this magnitude. Most all cars have them.
R W B...look into the Mastertune TTS. It's a download to the ecm (no piggy back) that you tune yourself. It will not adjust ignition so inevitably you will need to get a dyno tune. All of them are like that. Even, thundermax from what I understand. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
So, the only way to NEVER have a dyno tune is to never tune your bike and leave it bone stock.
The whole TTS setup (tts and usb cable) is around $460.
If you really want a powercommander, you can get a pcV (from fuelmoto) that is retrofitted for pre 09 bikes. You may find the autotune add-on cheaper onlline...do your tune then remove the auto-tune add-on.

I'm fuzzy on what you mean by, "It won't adjust ignition."

Grendel, from what I understand all the auto-tune devices out there will not adjust the ignition timing only afr. Again, I could be wrong but I'm about 95% sure of that statement. I left out the word "timing" in my original statement.

It's a pdf but loads pretty quick. It starts out talking about the 'knock sensing' technology of the Ion Sensing system but goes on to explain about adding timing across the board.
It does say that it's only about 95% perfect when you're done (good enough for most of us) and that to get the other 5% you need a dyno but -- Hey, I care.

I was goofing off a few weeks ago when I ran across an article where a guy did his own tune with a TTS then took it to a sooper professional tuner. He got one (1) more horsepower and a flatter torque curve after fifty dyno runs (and several hundred bucks, I assume).
The bike owner wasn't complaining, mind you. He was happy with the tune the Pro did. He liked it and thought it was worth the money. But, to me? One HP and a flatter torque curve? I dunno. The War Department would prolly beat me senseless for that. If I told her. Which I wouldn't.
All I know is what I read. I have no experience with tuners otherwise. But I AM ****-retentive and not afraid to do a little research. Which could be a bad thing for someone like me who doesn't have a clue what he's reading.
