Default Towing a Dyna...

I'm thinking of buying one of the hitches where the front tire is in a cradle in the cars tow receiver and straped down. The rear tire coasts along while the bike is in neutral.
Will this hurt the transmission because the engine isn't running???

personally, I would only do this as a last resort. The bike would be much better on a trailer.

+1

I'm towing mine in a week when I move. I have a J&S chock and so far is great for around the garage for now. I just plop the bike in there and it sits. I'll get a review up when I get to my destination in a week or how it does on the tow. You can order the tie down points with it so you don't have to install them into the floor of your truck or trailer. It's very easy to take out of a trailer or back of a truck and use it in the garage.

I wouldn't even think about it. A cheap trailer can probably be had for around the same price.

Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to store the trailer.
I'm worried about the TRANSMISSION with the engine off???

I can't remember the name of it, but there was a motorcycle trailer in a bag that I would trust more then the carrier you're thinking about. Since they sell these things I would think it's ok to have the bike rolling in Neutral. That's how they tow your cars!! Good luck!

It shouldn't hurt it because the trans is a splash sump system and doesn't use a lube pump to distribute the trans oil. But if the bike is lifted in the front on a high angle then the oil in the trans could all collect in the rear lower part of the case and might starve the top end parts. I would have to see how high the bike gets lifted.

My friend towed his Panhead from CO to FL like that, but removing the chain was a lot easier than removing a belt.

I bought the trailer in a bag and it is terrific. It comes apart and fits in the trunk of your car. That is where I kept mine when I went to Dallas for a month. It takes about 15 minutes to assemble and take apart. So no real heavy lifting. I wouldn't put it in the bag they give you though or it won't fit in your trunk. I never felt the weight of it behind my car and was able to drive at speed without issues. Here's the link: http://trailerinabag.com/index.html
