Default Rear brake chatter... frame flexing?

Ok still being new to the dyna. I recently noticed when braking with only the rear brake i can feel some chatter while braking. Bike is new, under 2k miles, still stock and really i just noticed it.. This only happens when i use just the rear brake durring harder braking. Feels like anti-lock is what i could compare it to. You can feel it, feels like its flexing the frame at the rear....

Am i crazy? I've checked the frame for stress cracks, brakes, etc.. and found nothing.. I mainly use my front brake while slowing. It's not that big of an issue (as long as it's not hurting anything). I tried searching different brake terms and came up with nothing that matches what i'm talking about. Just want to make sure i haven't over looked something.

Thanks for the help
Nathan

Sounds like a warped rotor, but on a new bike?

New does not mean good, take it to the dealer for warranty.

It's just the caliper chattering on the carrier. There is a rubber bumper in there to keep it from chattering but it still happens.

Hmmm ok...

Yeah i don't believe its a warped rotor. It's doesn't have the grab/release going on. If you've ever locked up antilock brakes on a car/truck and felt that chatter. That's the best i can compare it to but it feel like its right under you butt. You can actually feel the frame flex in the middle.

I wanna ask why you are using only the rear brake, but it's not relevant.
It sure don't sound good by your discription.

Does it more feel like the farthest rear part of the tranny is hitting up against the frame or swingarm under heavy rear only breaking. Like some metal to metal tapping of parts?

True, it may not be relevant... but...

Having forward controls, coming to a light i see changing. I may just flash the brake light with the rear brake. Then slow using just the rear, most times when i get to the light it's green. However i noticed if you give it more brake it chatters, flexes. Like you can feel the rear shocks flex.

Not like i do it all the time but since i have noticed it i've tried to figure out what causes it. Were not talking braking and locking up rear tire. Just under heavier braking.

I tend to use my front brake and rear together but there are times where i may use 1 or the other, not both.

Bikerlaw, doesn't feel like metal to metal or sound like it. But i'll have to see if i can do it again to be sure.

Also it's never done it under normal or hard braking using both brakes. I could take it in and have them take a look... It's just a pita. Honestly i'd rather fix stuff myself. Yeah i have a warranty but i'm not running my bike to the dealer over every little thing... Some of the things i would have questioned are normal... Like harley's being noisey. After riding a few days i was thinking man this motor sure is loud... after searching and riding a bit i find out it's normal noise.. nothing others don't have.

OK, heres why I ask. I had a similar rattle. It was rear brake specific. It only happened when you applied the rear brake rather hard and was especially prevalent when riding two up. I went on a mad parts swapping spree. Rear wheel bearings, brake pads, swingarm bushing and bearing and even the front motor mount. Nothing fixed it. Finally I swapped out the rear motor mount. That was the problem. I spoke with a number of other members with the same problem and they all turned out to be the rear mount. Its simple enough to find out if its bad. If you spent any time at all on this forum, you know about the "shim the front motor mount" trick. Takes 5 minutes to do the opposite to the rear mount. Take a floor jack, jack up the motor and lift pressure off the rear mount. Loosen the motor mount allen bolts about 5 turns each. Pull out the bottom bolt, put in a washer and gently snug it up. Then pull the top bolt, wiggle in a washer, wiggle the top bolt in and tighten it back up. Go for a ride. If the sound is gone, you have a bad rear mount. Now, I have not heard or seen your bike, but what your describing sure sounds familiar...and its free to check it.

Thanks. I will def be giving this a better look then. Don't really ride 2 up. Wife has her own bike now and we've only been out together twice. I rarely use just the rear brake but like i said just seems there is something going on.

Thanks for the help
