Default Decent Rain Gear

Looking to buy packable rain gear. Any bargains out there or more importantly, any brands to steer clear of?

Thanks!

Whatever you get make sure it has the leg heat shields. Or you will be cleaning them off the pipes.

I bought the Harley 2 piece suit. The dealer had an open house and it was 25% off.

I bought from this guy. Fast ship and a decent suit. I've put mine to the test and have had no problems.

We have HD gear for the rain. Have suits that we bought before the 95th Anniversary ride to Wisconsin in 1998. They have served us very well.

Regards,

Bill

Scott:

Got your PM. By the way- you said "packable". I didn't take this to mean compact- they're not. But they are heavy- duty and will stand up longer than the rubberized thin suits that fit into a cigarette box. I dedicate a nearly half of a saddlebag to one suit.

Good luck.

There are sooo many to choose from. The best advise anyone can give you is "Don't Skimp". You get what you pay for. Invest a little extra in your rain gear, and you won't be sorry. It will last longer and will keep you warm and dry. Having the heat resistant panel on the inside leg (exhaust side) is crucial! One brush up against those hot pipes with the regular rain suit material and poof!...you got a leaky hole...and voila .... no bargain there. A good suit will have velcro covered zippers including the neck and cuffs. The only problem is that these tend not to pack as small as the cheapie ones. Small trade off as apposed to the benefits though.

The wife and I purchased the HD rain suit (similar to canal street) that packs into the hood of the jacket. Packed, the suit is about 6 inches round and two inches tall. The suit is cut to go over your leathers, boots, and helmet and includes the heat shield on the inner leg. The suit retails for $110.00. We purchased an older style for 25% off, and to be honest, we liked the older style better than the newer one. I would not start out a ride in the rain wearing this suit. It is designed to pack on the bike and provide protection in case you get caught in the rain while on a ride. This works perfect for me as I do not intentionally ride in the rain, but have been caught in the rain several times during the spring and fall season.

Good rainsuits are priceless as I learned on my last trip. We rode in the rain every day on a 1200 mile trip. Not much fun but at least I was dry. I have the rainsuit that I purchased from Harley last year for about $120 or so. It is the heavier version that is gray, orange, and reflective. It is a great suit and I would highly recommend.

Got the same suit--I think it is the best buy in the HD line although I'm sure they have come out with new models since I got mine in '05. I'm not the tallest tree in the forest and the pant legs are a little long but it is great gear.

Frog Toggs--look like paper but work great and they breathe so you don't fell like you're in a sauna suit.
