Default Can you do a quality powder coat chrome?

If so is the chrome stripped first? I want to know because this afternoon I'm heading to the local powder coater and I would like to know the process to make sure its a quality job, thanks!

To do it right you'll have the chrome sanded off. Only way to get a good finish on the powder

Ok, so being sand blasted first would work?

Since the question is about PC you will prob get an answer from JRK. Most of the black on my Shovel is PC. Some done over chrome. The PC place will bead blast and then coat. No probs over good quality chrome. If chrome is peeling then it should be removed.

No problems powder coating is on the chrome. Even having two corrosion protection.

All parts on my bike are painted on chrome ... I have some experience

I use to run a powder coating shop that did custom work and the process we used was to get the part from the customer, bake it for 8 hrs to get oils out of the metal, sandblast, rinse, heat parts based on size and type of metal, aplly powder then bake on and let cool. If it is a good shop they should use the same process or very similar. Yes you can powder coat over chrome as long as its done correctly and you will have no problems.

I had my stuff bead-blasted before I painted it. Cost me about $40 for the slip-ons and the heat shields. Worked great. The paint on my slip-ons is about three years old, and still looks perfect (except for my boot marks)

I live in a furniture town, so there are small finishing shops all over the place here.

I'm doing a complete redue of my scoot, a winter project. Relocating my speedo and tack. New tank, fenders and paint. The first part is done, the chrome dash in matt black.

Chrome dash was coated by The Powder Pro, I got it back yesterday. They sand blasted the part first. It came out perfect. Thanks to Joe and his partner Sean.

Here are photos of the dash and all the components back in.
