Default Exhaust comparison..

So it took me a LONG time to warm up to the style of 2-1 exhaust systems. I bought my Rinehart 2-1 about 6-7 months ago and have enjoyed the gains I felt over the slip on's I had....and looks grew on me. I also enjoyed the sound, which was mellow compared the SE II's with BCT baffles in them...those were LOUD.

It also took me a long time to finally warm up to the Thunderheader looks. I've been wanting to try one out for a while, with such a strong following it peaked my interests.

So I bought a set, can't wait for it to get here. Here is my question:

I've never heard a bike with a TH on it. Does anyone have any personal experience with hearing the TH compared to my Rinehart's? Louder? I expect a different tone for sure, it would be nice to pick up a bit of a power and looking at the shape and length of the header pipes of the TH, I imagine it will. Basically...it is a leap of faith in what I have read to try this out. Also, what gaskets do the TH take? Factory work?

I plan on doing the cams and heads this winter while the riding is poor...

And...of course the Rinehart 2-1 is going up for sale too.

IMO you just wasted your money. I too felt the same way about the Rinehart, but now I love the look. I am actually not very impressed by the sound of ANY 2-1. IMO they all sound like crap! The best sounding pipe IMO is Cycle Shack. They are a classic look and sound perfect. Not too loud, not quiet either.

I only say you wasted your money becasue I think the TH is the worst looking pipe ever made, and since its a 2-1 IMO it will sound bad.

Good luck with your future build, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Just a reminder of what a Rinehart sounds like with a built motor

You see, I disagree as I think the 2-2 ones doesn't sound that good to my ears (my father runs Bub 2-2 and they sound good, but I just plain prefer the 2-1 sound)

I honestly can't stand the way the "classic" 2-2 looks on my bike, and why I dumped the slip on's so fast, the sound was ok, but the looks just were...well, lame.

Meh, the pipe is used and hopefully I'll be able to sell mine for close to the same price. I really just wanted to change up the bike a little and exhaust is an easy way to do that.

I do plan to pick your brain a bit about my build. Thinking of going with either 54's or 7W's for the cams, dewy for my head work, .030 headgaskets, compression releases and getting it dyno tuned with the PC-V. Hoping for that magical 100/100 mark.

My buddy has a TH on a stock fatboy, and it kinda reminds me of my piped(LRD)4 stroke honda 450r. I'm not saying that it will sound like a honda, but I think most people that know what I'm talking about will agree. My quad has been called the "chopper in the woods" and sounds pretty bada$$! Don't forget when you do any motor work, the overall sound of the exhaust will change.

Did you mean 7H cams from woods? If you did here's my dyno with The TW-7H cams, 4 degree advance gear, heavy breather and Rinehart 2 into 1. No head work. Pretty impressive cams if you ask me. A tuner who knows what he is doing makes all the difference. Going to a 107" with head work this winter.....builder said 7h cams will make that build scream, just gotta pull out the advance gear.
