Default transmission cover expertise needed

the transmission cover on my 98 fxdl is all pitted. i need to remove it anyway to install the EZ pull cluth ramps. i dont really like the ribs in the cover but according to "the book", my options are limited.

while cruising the web - the descriptions for the aftermarket transmission covers appear to include more contemporary dates - like up to 2006? could it be so? does anyone know if i can use the transmission covers from any of the TC motors or am i religated to the EVO ribs?

thx - tin

On a former bike with an EVO, the OEM cover was clear coated aluminum that was turning yellow. I bought a nice shiny aftermarket chrome replacement and guess what--the dipstick interfered with the clutch cable to the point where the clutch cable sawed the dipstick clear through. What a mess.

Have heard of this happening .. need to be careful of this or get a cap for it and only use the dipstick to actually check it when stopped ..

I've seen them come in
1980-1986
1987-1999
1999-2006

Bolt pattern and gasket might be different also

Recommend you get correct year for less headaches

I bought crap from these guys before…. But you can also see what’s out there for fun.
