I just installed a Burly Slammer Kit front and rear on my 2010 Street Bob. As expected, it rides stiffer then before. What I didn't expect is with the spacers cut at 1" as recommended by Burly, the front end bottoms out and only has 3/4 of an inch to compress. I called their tech. support and the guy pretty much said it was to be expected, that is normal and I should lengthen the spacer. If I lengthen the spacer, it will bring the bike back up. So my question is, for folks on here who have the slammer kit installed, what length spacer are you using and how much compression in the front end does that allow? Does the front end clunk and bottom out with the 1 inch spacer like mine? Thanks.
Last year I installed progressives drop in kit and it was bottoming out as well. It would take quite a hit, but it would bang on occasion. I switched to Harley's heavy weight fork oil and the problem was greatly improved.
If you are gonna lower any forks heavier fork oil will be required to maintain a manageable ride. Notice I didnt say good ride, just manageable. If I lower my 49mm Street Bob forks I am gonna use 20 wt fluid. Most guys use Screamin Eagle 15wt. I weigh 265 so I figure 20 will do the trick.
i did the progressive 2" drop with the screamin eagle oil, and there is no bottoming out of the front end. the ride is stiff though. progressive recommends you try different wt. oils until you find the one thats right for you.
Could it be that by pulling out the original springs you lost a lot of oil?
I let them drip for a while so I didn't lose too much of the fork oil. I still need to put in some new oil, but so far, no bottoming out on the front end with the Burly kit.

Did you use the drop in kit or the kit that used extra top out springs on the damper rod?
