There is nothing special you need to know about the FXD. They are great bikes that handle better than most, and are adaqualte for long trips if you travel one up most of the time. They handle better that the softails, ie, Fatboy, and in the twistys, they don't touch down near as quick.
Nice choice. Welcome to the forum. Post some pictures.
Wow, nice responses.
Well I finally got my bike today around 400 pm. I like it a lot. But after they let me have a fat boy with SE pipes this thing is very quiet.
I babied it on the way home and took the wife for a quick ride. Here is where my questions start.
Was it too soon to be two up? I am 230 and my wife is about the same. I tried not to lug the motor and I had to increase the rpms some going up hills or kick her down a gear. Do any of you think this may have caused any harm?
I am now at 41 miles tonight and all seems well, almost mile by mile a little more power coming in.
As to the question to me. My first mods are being installed on July 6th. They are forward foot controls, sissy bar and vance and hines big shots I believe. I need more sound soon.
Thank you all once again.
Riding two up did not hurt your bike. Keep the RPMs reasonable, don't lug, and don't over rev, and you'll be fine. These things are not all that delicate. If they were, they wouldn't have been around for the last 100+ years.
Thanks for the link. I have read that one. I have been to many sites saying different and controversial things. I see both sides of the issue. Was just curious to what you all had done and more of personal experiences and opinions.
I am now at 55 miles, but it has been raining here so I cant ride until tomorrow I hope. Later
Well I got 20 more miles on her tonight. She is definately getting more power by the mile.
I had to adjust the headlight thought it was shining in everyones eyes. Anyone else had to do this.. That little cover is hard to get off without scratching the light housing.
Welcome to the forum Hughey79. I am also new to V-Twin forum.
I have been riding old-used high mileage Hondas, Yamahas and
Kawasaki for 30 years. I wanted a Harley for over 20 years and
tomorrow will be two months ago that I bought my new FXDWG.
Tuesday I am going to speed specialist and let Dave do the 1k
service and put her on a diet of Synthethic lube, then I will talk
about going with a simple Stage I upgrade.
Thinking about a Big Sucker, S&S slipons and Dave said he can
work majik on the Keihin CV. "I can't wait"
Hi everybody i just bought a 05 super glide last night. and planning on some se 2 for pipes by the weekend and do the air box at a later time .but just stock it has some awsome grunt.it is something i have been waiting for a long time .and i look for many miles of great rideing and for everybody out there have a great safe summer.
I too just bought my FXDI in all black. I've had it since 6/6/05 and I LOVE IT! The wife and I have taken it on several 200+ mile rides and I did the synthetic diet also. I only rode it for about 2 miles without the stage I and the aircleaner and SE upgrade. I had them do that b4 I picked it up. The SEII's are loud enough for many, but not me. You are very right also about the grunt. 88 cu in's with 626 lbs of iron is a darn good ratio. As for the shock rate, when I took mine in for the 1k service, I added the crome battery cover and had them crank my rear shocks up all the way. Really not noticable by myself, but when 2 up even a hard not seen bump wont make her bottom out. All in all, the only changes I wanna make are bars, raked triple trees, lower kit for rear end, and 95 cu in's. Of course we say we will only do so much, but the longer you own your scoot, the more stuff you wanna do. Happy Riding and Enjoy your Dyna!
