Thanks for the link. I have read that one. I have been to many sites saying different and controversial things. I see both sides of the issue. Was just curious to what you all had done and more of personal experiences and opinions.
I am now at 55 miles, but it has been raining here so I cant ride until tomorrow I hope. Later

What I would suggest is to ride it , but not baby it. Accelerate it , then decelerate it to load up both the top and bottom of the rings to seat them better. I've broken in all my cars and bikes this way and have had great results with no problems at all. If you do the break in htis way , your rings will be pretty much seated in the first 50 or so miles.

Hi,

I truly hope you are as happy as I am with your superglide.

WARNING!!! this is NOT to be taken as advice, only the way I chose to break in my FXDI,.....

Kept it under 40 mph for about 20 miles, then said "hell with this....."

Put the Arlen Ness Big Sucker intake on it, S&S mufflers, Stage I Sreamin' Eagle re-calibration, which raised the rev limiter from 5800 to 6200, raised the timing, and added fuel, damn things a beast! Anyhow,........

Found a long hill, and got going about 40 mph, and then down shifted and let the compression "pull" it down the hill, have done this a couple of times, this really breaks in the rings FAST!!!!

Then I went out and rode it on the highway, held it at 70 mph for a while, then went 60, 50 , etc. varied speeds, and gears, to give it a varying range, all the while you're out in the open, away from town, to get plenty of "air across the fins" and keep it cool, don't want to overheat a new motor, imho......

Sometimes I lightly lug the motor, buy lightly I mean just a LITTLE throttle, to help the bearings settle in, I also do some full-on takeoffs from the green light, really give her hell.....let me tell you, intake, exhaust, and re-cal really turns a stripped down harley like a superglide into a hot-rod!

I've got 250 miles on her right now, she's COMPLETELY broke in, and I didn't hurt the motor!!

The other day I took her out, and I can feel the "extra" power, now that she's loosened up!

at 1,000 miles, ALL fluids are going to H/D SYN 3, some of you all might think I'm crazy, full of crap etc., but I'm tellin' ya, the engine is fine, no damage, hasn't burnt a drop of oil, and has bumped off the redline SEVERAL times (6,200 rpm now!!!)

Lastly, again, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this, I did it becasue I know engines, at least automotive, and I didn't abuse it, just broke it in quick, just ridin' it like I'm going to always ride it.[&:]

Next year, will probably go 95 cu. in. and will go out to the hill, and compression break in my rings again......

joe
