I can afford ANY bike that HD makes ... in 2005 or today. I bought a 2005 FXDI because it was what I wanted. At time of purchase, it was sitting next to a 2006 FXDI. The 2006 had a new frame + 6 speed. What it didn't have was a stock 2 up seat and passenger setup. It was also more cramped than the 05, which was a huge factor for me. I bought the 2005 ... didn't know about IPB issues, stator issues, etc. It was just the right decision for me.
Price wasn't a factor? You bought it strictly for the seat?

I've had the older and I've had the newer. I've modded both.
There is no question that the newer is better.

I said "usually", not "always". Obviously you didn't fit into that catagory.
Nor was the guy a few posts before you that I also pissed off. LOL

Life would be so boring if nobody ever got pissed off. LOL

Every year Harley has it's own quirks. But the 2006 Dyna has some really stupid mistakes that were made in the name of strictly cost cutting. Now that my dyna has had all of the flaws fixed (by the MoCo) it runs really well.
Very smooth and the TC88 runs just fine for me. Now that the entire driveline has been apart and back together the bike has about 50% less vibration and tracks perfectly which is really a surprise to me. So, I have my fingers crossed.

But I would definitely like to get a early 90's lowrider if I can find one in good shape.

If you don't ruffle a few feathers from time to time, you're flying to slow !!!

I understood what you were trying to say (even if it did come off a tad snobbish...)

Once one of 'em jumps on you, they will all jump on you..

I got your back Ed...

I shouldn't have even responded...there is no way you can say anything about an '06, without EVERY '06 owner thinking your "dissing" his ride.

Fact is...it was a transitional year, and there are some quirks. Once they are addressed, no problem.

I'm done here. Peace.

your lowrider is too sweet to get rid of. Keep her.

I would.

Not a true statement, mine was one of the last runs and the cases are not doweled. My IPB failed as did my rotor/stator. All is well now andI wouldn't think twice about owning a second 06.

I am just going by what one of my friends at the MoCo have told me. Plus a few guys with 2006 late production models had the dowel holes (no dowels in them) and welded one piece rotors. So it is a true statement. Not sure when your bike was made but they did catch the issue in the late 2006 model year.

Oh, hell yes Thanks...I am going to keep the bike. I finally got all of the quirks out and it has never run better. But I would like to get a second project bike like an older RK or FXR to play with.

Usually when you read something like that it's emissions-related, like the huge debacle in 1973 when GM completed the emasculation of it's already weakened muscle cars that started in '71.

At first I thought my new SG was faster than my '03 Fat Boy, but now I'm starting to think it's tit for tat. Maybe the '11 has a little more low end grunt, I don't know. The '11 is bone stock so far except for Rush 1.75 slipons while the Fatboy has way more open Pythons and a low restriction air cleaner with a Stage 1 remap.

I do know that the '11 runs way hotter than the '03; gonna have to look in to that after the 1K service.
Even WITH an oil cooler, mine runs around 230* oil temp at 80* ambient temperature. A little toastie, but it is what it is.

If you've got an '11, the motor is still 'green'. Give it time to 'break-in' and it will smoke the '03. It should.

I read somewhere that in'06 at some point, the MoCo went from the 'bathtub' shaped combustion chamber to a 'hemispherical' combustion chamber in the twinkies. Can't seem to verify that.
