They realized the problem and changed the cases back to ones with dowels mid year so maybe you have one that is ok. My bike was manufactured in 12/2005 so it didn't have the dowels. Some guys also have the one piece welded rotor as well. Mine had the 2 piece with the screws.

As much as I love my 02 WG, when I see the new WG's... I *really* love my 02 WG!

That's a pretty jackass comment right there. You too Skidder.

I _think_ what the OP's reference to, was a comment regarding Wide Glides (although I could be wrong).

In response to Ed's comment, I could have bought a new '09 if I wanted to, problem is, they didn't have an '09 model that I wanted. I don't like the newer style battery boxes w/ the bands around them. I bought my '04 Wide Glide, because that's the bike I wanted, not because I couldn't afford an '09. It had the looked I wanted. I don't like the '06+ Wide Glide rear fenders (don't have enough of a 'kick' to them). And to me, Wide Glides have ALWAYS been about lots of chrome, so the '10+ ones don't appeal to me either.

I also like having a carb, and not having to pay hundreds of dollars for download.

Hey guys I'm the OP. I actually have an '11 SG so I wasn't asking for purchase advice as much as I was just curious. I guess I figured that if there was a sea change in '06 it was throughout the whole Dyna line.

Usually when you read something like that it's emissions-related, like the huge debacle in 1973 when GM completed the emasculation of it's already weakened muscle cars that started in '71.

At first I thought my new SG was faster than my '03 Fat Boy, but now I'm starting to think it's tit for tat. Maybe the '11 has a little more low end grunt, I don't know. The '11 is bone stock so far except for Rush 1.75 slipons while the Fatboy has way more open Pythons and a low restriction air cleaner with a Stage 1 remap.

I do know that the '11 runs way hotter than the '03; gonna have to look in to that after the 1K service.

Gotta call BS on this statement. I ride an '02 FLHT and a '05 FXSTDI; both with larger than stock displacement, cams, headwork, etc. and I can afford a new bike. I recently considered upgrading and replacing the FL. Test rode two bikes, FLHX and FLSTC, both 2010s. I have to tell ya that I wouldn't trade either of my older bikes for one of those 2010s on an even trade.

I am not going to go into the increased use of parts made outside the USA which, IMHO, has reduced the quality of the Harley Davidson motorcycle or complain about the MoCo taking those measures, it is what it is. No, neither of my bikes has a 200mm rear tire, ABS, TBW, six speed transmission, etc. but both will run with any of the new bikes, run cool, have never been back to the dealer after the 500 mile service and the only time they have been down is when I took them down to upgrade performance. That's all I can ask of a motorcycle.

I have a 98 super orig owner new pipes thunderslide kit 300 doll installed no problems at all. Now if I get a new I would have to change alot to make it run right no pinging and cooler just my thought. I cant see buying something and dropping almost 2000 bucks or more into it to make it run good Ill wait till a bike goes on sale and the previous owner took the guess work out of it

Wow - really? Are you f'n serious? Your level of ignorance is significant.

I can afford ANY bike that HD makes ... in 2005 or today. I bought a 2005 FXDI because it was what I wanted. At time of purchase, it was sitting next to a 2006 FXDI. The 2006 had a new frame + 6 speed. What it didn't have was a stock 2 up seat and passenger setup. It was also more cramped than the 05, which was a huge factor for me. I bought the 2005 ... didn't know about IPB issues, stator issues, etc. It was just the right decision for me.

2006 DYNAS were part of the transition year.

The engine stayed at 88, but had the newer gen twin cam case, with the improved cam chain tenshioner arrangement, and auto primary chain adjsuter. The splines on the crankshaft are a 2006 only setup...therefore, when rebuilding a 2006 motor, be prepared to have to get a '06 specific set of parts.

Rotor/Stator problems, as mentioned before.

All new frame. Larger tubing, wider in the rear for wider tires, 49mm fork tubes, key in fork tube, new 6 speed transmission.

As it is a transitional year, and first of new stuff...there were some teething problems. Once those issues are fixed, no problems. But it IS an oddball year for DYNA's, just like 1979 was for Sportsters.

BTW, If I wanted a new bike, Ed, i'd go get one. I happen to like the earlier DYNA's.

When I bought my bike in June/July of 2005, it was the last of the old generation, and all the bugs had been worked out, and all parts on the bike were already tried tested and proven.....no new stuff to R&D for the MOCO on my dime!

Harley's are different than other things in life. As harley's get older, they get better like fine wine.
