Post Which quick connect to add?

I wanted to add a quick connect (and disconnect) fuel line fitting to my tank crossover line. I saw a bunch of adds most only sell the one side of the fitting and you have to find the match.

Anyhow I ended up ordering a Jiffy Tite aluminum set (thru Amazon) from Hoerr Racing Products. But I am concerned about the length of it. I talked to them on the phone today and they said the total length connected was about 3 5/8" (tip of barb to tip of barb) . That is not going to leave me much flex to take it loose ?

Who from or what kind are you guys buying for this ? About how long is yours, and how big an issue is some flex to get disconnected ?

I looked into that once. I decided that the piece of crossover hose costs about .79 cents. I could replace it 40 times for the same cost as a quick disconnect. I am never taking my tank off 40 times so I scrapped that idea. You're right about the length of the whole thing is about the length of the hose. Just my

I would be interested to hear what you guys end up using for the crossover line and which clamps you use.

I currently have the stock line with a crappy standard hose clamp on one side and I hate the look. I am thinking of the braided unit from HD but have heard it can leak, so lets hear what you guys think is best and looks clean. I have seen on bike builds where guys will use race wire/mechanics wire instead of clamps to clean up hoses. Opinions?

Well I am currently waiting on mine to see if they will fit. The quick connects are about $40 for the two connects, but every time I do any wiring etc my tank has to come off. And I know I won't take it off 20 times but even 2 times is such a pain and mess to deal with draining the gas even if you are on empty.

As far as braided lines leaking, there is something wrong since it is just braiding over top of the same rubber hose. The fancy clamps sometimes used might be the problem. Maybe you want to make sure you get good quality fiber braided into the rubber type hose to start with and then put stainless braiding over it. Metal braided covered hose is a bit of a pain to cut without the metal braiding fraying back but it can be done. If you buy it already braided just ask them about (or look at) the quality of the rubber hose under it. You should see a few fibers inbedded in the rubber at the end, and it should be pliable and not hard. A friend of mine uses 1/4" I.D. line on lhis crossover because he says it fits the tank nipples better than the OEM 5/16" I.D. does. I tried it and it does fit tighter, but doesn't seem to be too tight or stretch. Makes for easier clamping without as much crunch on the rubber.

Well I am plannning on keeping my bike for a long time so I am definitely interested in seeing this quick connect setup that you are into at the moment. I am dreading a new handlebar install as that dookie design on the crossover line is such a headache and the last time I removed my tank I got fuel all over the place. I would remove my tank for cleaning, wiring, paint much more frequently if I had a better setup on that crossover line.

Be sure and post pictures and part numbers/price when the job is done. I believe I will be doing this mod for sure.

Ok I will do that. They told me it should be here by Wed (the latest) of next week.

Oh and by the way my friend cuts his braided line with a small 4" thin wheel grinder. His joints always stay unfrayed.
